Uh oh, Will Smith has a hot track?

So I was watching videos, when all of a sudden a new Will Smith video came on called "switch". First of all I didn't know he had an album coming out. As I watched the video, I found myself digging it! I think it's good. Anyone else hear this song? Do you think he'll be successful as a recording artist?

Why do people dislike him so much? Is it because he's clean cut? Wouldn't you say he's a btter rodel for kids than someone like Snoop?

I think his a good entertainer. His songs (none too recent) were fun and he didn't take himself to seriously. Not a bad actor either. Sure, in the end his songs may not be as memorable as the samples he used to make them, but oh well.
Oh..to answer your question..No. I've not heard his new song. lol

About 6 years ago...he had a HUGE success with his album with Big WIllie Style...it had Men in Black, Getting Jiggy with it and Miami...all HUGE. I was surprised by his success without using swear words or dirty language.

I think he's a great role model for kids...he keeps it clean and doesn't insult the intelligence too much.

Oh..I'm not arguing with you. lol An improvement? Well depends how you look at it. I think if you have children you should make yourself aware of what they are listening to. Eventually they're gonna hear the 'other' side of today crap music. So educate them before the media does! wink

It just seems like people don't like him because he's not stereotypically black. He doesn't curse, talk about hoes or drugs, therefore he's uncool. Just doesn't seem fair.

It's true that he has had a few hits in his career. Good for him.

I have always been under the impression that he was and is still very popular. Then again...I haven't really heard him in a while.

No, record labels don't like him because he isn't stereotypically black. Rap right now is in a terrible state, but people will often listen to whatever shit you provide them with - if it's the only shit in town, what choice have they got?

When I first heard Switch I thought it was horrid (I even posted about it) and so did my friends. After seeing the video, I had to admit it was catchy. Next thing I know my friends are digging it. Go figure. He has had some serious hits and it's nice to a rap record that's not going to be offensive or derogatory in some way. Plus he's nice to look at.

I might mention that LL hasn't cursed on his last 3 albums I think and while the innuendos are certainly there I don't find the music offensive. And he's nice to look at as well.

I can hear nastiness like "slap her wit a dick, slap her wit a dick" anytime.

"LL is hard as hell" drool LL was never excessive with his cursing. Not that I remember anyway. I think he's just at the mid-point from clean and getting the point across...and...almost hardcore. lol

I can hear nastiness like "slap her wit a dick, slap her wit a dick" anytime.

eek Damn. Really?? lol

That's from Chris Rock Never Scared I think when he was talking about nasty lyrics and some women who don't mind singing and dancing to these songs.

cool, i didn't know LL wasn't cursing either. i really respect that. that should be a lesson to kids that they don't need to talk rubbish in order to sell records. i don't mind hearing swearing in songs but i do think of the kids coming up today that are subjected to that. damn, i'm making myself sound old..lol!

am very sure this is probably the best time for WILL SMITH to put out a record, lets face it for one this isnt one of the best years for originality in hip hop, samples which has always been used but today standards not to a creative view..and Will is good at picking his samples.

RAP music today sounds exactly what WILL did back in the days of BIG WILLIE STYLE.. all clubs play now is Jiggy music,, so i think WILL could do big with this new album, because its todays sound for HIP POP!!

you know,I actually like Will Smith boxed

his style of rap is harmless...just good, clean fun without all the "gangsta posturing" and negativity of almost everything else in hip-hop right now. Will is certainly more likeable than a loser like 50 Cent or Ludacris.

I'm not sure if I like it or not. Me and my daughter watched the video and he just looked at it with a blank stare...we didnt' know what to do with the song...but it is catchy.....I don't have a problem with Will. I think he's true to himself and that's good enough for me.

That's what I like about him too. At least he doesn't try to act all "hard" and pretend to be something he's not. He keeps it real in his own way.
