Norah Jones-Talk about a snoozefest. She is just not that good! I have no idea why she's so popular.
Alanis Morisette-Canada (my country ) acts like she's this wonderfully gifted musical genius, but what's so great about her? I don't think she's even done anything worthwhile since Jagged Little Pill. Elvis-Come on, he never even wrote a damn song! Sure, his dance moves and charisma influenced the music scene, but to call him the king of rock & roll and all that is just bullshit. U2-I love or like some songs, but I wouldn't call them a truly great band. I'd say they're merely very good. Very overrated by everyone. Avril-I hate how some ppl talk about how she writes a lot of her own songs. Well big deal when the lyrics are as embarassing as hers are. She's an awful, awful lyricist. Beyonce-She's got a hot body, but she ain't sexy. Every time she tries to be, it looks incredibly fake. Also, her songs have good hooks but really aren't anything even approaching brilliance. Usher-Just a diluted MJ, and to a lesser degree, Prince. Madonna-I like her, but some talk about her as if she was a musical virtuoso in her prime. I mean, she always had hot producers and song-writers helping her, and really wasn't ever that good of a singer anyway. Enough of the others have been mentioned, so I won't bother with all those lame hip hoppers like 50, etc. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

First of all, Lionel Ritchie is GREAT!!!!! AND SO is U2!!!!!
Bjork is a Genius!!! | |

I wanna start a list of Most Underrated Musicians:
Lou Gramm. One of the best Rock vocalists ever. Top Ten at least Bjork. Weird. Genius. Jonny Lang. Living Colour. Yes, they are still around. Prince. Obviously. Then again he did win two Grammys this past year and I still have the 2004 HOF Induction on Tape. Lenny Kravitz. His last album was so-so.

Most overrated :
Bjork Rush Radiohead Leonard Cohen Neil Young (even though I love a lot of his stuff ....) And ... almost all Rap/Hip-Hop music. When you read "Vibe" or the "Village Voice", they write about a lot of these performers as if they were real artists who were creating something interesting . If you are talking about the more creative end of the field (Outkast, The roots, early PE) then I can agree. But to take Fitty or the Game seriously, as you would take Bob Dylan or Bob marley or Marvin Gaye, is just a joke #SOCIETYDEFINESU

I am going to Lenny Kravitz (If he doesn't cancel on me again!) April 21 in New York City! He may be Overrated, but he has flashes of brilliance! I know he is dirivative, but no one else is sounding like Mayfield, The Better qualities of Zeppelin, Beatles, Funk, Black Rock..... So I dig him.

Thoughts? Comments? Lenny Kravitz is one of those singers who have no style at all. They r copycats.LN is just imitating others(sometimes quite well i must admit) Yet he remains a follower by doing what has been done 30 years ago If u like he is the Usher of Rock.

Erikah Badu...her wanna be African goddess gimick, and her pot-head spirituality
Beyoncé...Nothing bad to say here. Just too much exposure for not really doing anything. Mary J. Blige...talking in 3rd person queen! some good songs but nothing we really haven't heard before. Just because you wail and sweat on a stage doesn't mean you are actually "sangin'" Self proclaimed 'queen of hip hop soul'?? Ok let's just make up titles.."I'm king of backwoods funky pop-rockin' soul blues!" Elvis...I like. But he was just at the right place at the right time. Sorry folks..he was basically a "dance" act himself! Eminem... Pure unfiltered shit! Kid Rock... I guess there's a market for everybody. Justin Timberlake...See Eminem. "Hey ma! Look at me..I'm down! gun fire.."Mommy!!!!" White Stripes...3 words, WHAT THE FUCK!?! Usher... See his brother Justin above. Another nasty piece of shit! 50 Cent...Yep..his name just about sums it up. That was fun! Thanks kanamit forgot an "R" EDIT. ¤ [Edited 3/7/05 12:46pm]

Yeah I saw a lot of drum banging and Jack White trying to sing but not a lot of talent on display. They try to ape the mod bands from the late 60's, but they don't have the talent.

I was racking my brain for a list but yeah it's pretty obvious after reading some of the other posts, ELVIS!!!!! ELVIS was the most overrated artist ever IMO.

Dr. Dre-Not a particularly great rapper and his seminal album is nothing but one big parliament bite.
The Velvet Underground-their music is shit and their lyrics are pretentious Usher-oh we all know why, but I just REALLY REALLY REALLY hate him on top of all the other reasons Every rapper who's appeared on MTV in the last ten years Bob Dylan-Great, super important, but still overrated, his music just isn't anywhere near as good as his lyrics and even those aren't quite as great as everybody holds them to be Prince-In the eyes of the public, highly underrated, in the eyes of a lot of his fans, highly overrated Linkin Park-God rock n roll sucks these days, it's all rock and no roll. Dave Matthews band-The grateful dead of our generation The Grateful Dead-The Band that made it big by playing to audiences that didn't care they sounded like crap.

With Top 20 albums (Top 2 in Tori's case). It's amazing what a cult can do when they work together. That's why Tori's albums drop so fast on the charts after the first sales week. Her entire fan base buys her records as soon as they are released.

I think it's pretty cool in that they chart without airplay or hit singles. They have successful tours and even though they'll never sell out a twenty thousand seat arena you can bet that every seat at their shows is occupied by a rabid fan.

I agree with a lot of your entries but i need to comment on one that keeps popping up thats pissing me off.
There is no way Elvis is overrated. I am not a big fan of Elvis, and yes, he didn't invent rock n roll...however he made it accessable to the masses. He's the one that clicked with so many ears that he made some of them pick up a guitar and want do what he was doing. Yeah, he didn't write his own music, and he was popular for his looks and dance moves as much as his music at the time. But his influence is monumental within the history of rock. Without Elvis there would be no Beatles...John Lennon said many times Elvis is the reason he picked up a guitar. There are many other artists from that era (including Eric Clapton, Brian Wilson, Keith Richards/Mick Jaggar, and Pete Townsend to name a few) who say Elvis was a big reason they got into rock n roll in the 1st place. I think Elvis is an easy target for these kinds of questions but you need to look at other things beyond whether he wrote his own music to write him off so easliy.
