I bought this chick's first album based on a review and the album was total and complete trash. I fucking hated it 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

First time I heard it (which was a loooong time ago) I thought it was hot to death and still think it is. Even more now that I've seen the video. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I dig that track tremendously.
Amerie is slept on. "Why Don't We Fall In Love?" and "Talk To Me" were hot lil' jams. But she favors this girl I was in love with once, so she's lovely to look at. In limited doses. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

It's telling that the same guy that produced this track also produced J Lo's "Get Right" for the fact that he saved the stronger track for the better singer. Imaging J Lo singing "1 Thing". *shudder*

I went back and reviewed tracks on CDNOW.com from the album "All I have" and seriously, I don't think she's that great of a vocalist. I was so disappointed in this album. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

She always reminded me of Mary J Blige, and "Why Don't We Fall In Love" sounds as if it were on outtake from "What's the 411".

Not a GREAT vocalist (rare in contemporary R&B these days), but she's not terrible either. She's Janet-esque in the sense that she can make a few tracks really "work." And she happens to be fine. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

her first album was okay, although, I do have to admit that all the songs sounded alike...she's better than ashanti anyday...but not better than Whitney or Aretha I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I just sorta recall Amerie as being an R&B singer that hip-hop heads weren't ashamed of name-dropping a couple years back, and there was one song I heard and the beat was tight... I slept on her though

Oh come on Supa LOL When it comes to R&B tend to never stray from the "neo-soul" artists But.... As far as the mainstream R&B chicks(ashati, Beyonce ect) go shes my favorite. Her production is tight (thanks to RIch harrison) and her 1st LP was great. The Drum progamming on 1 thing is serious. Good question! I can't think of many truly transcendent voices in the Ella/Aretha/Chaka mold, but here are a few that are as good as they get: Jill Scott Ledisi (indie sista from the Left Coast, very, very good) Cassandra Wilson (does jazz as as well as rhythm and blues. Beyonce (she's got some chops, the one post-Janet female superstar who CAN sing) Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I'm not that big into R&B but I liked Amerie's first album, All I Have. It had it's own sound altho some of the songs did start to sound alike but still not like other stuff that was out. She and Rich Harris basically helped each other to get into the door. She, his first project and he producing her entire album.
Her voice also reminds me of MJB but with less flatness and cigarettes. I also like that Amerie isn't wildly popular and overexposed (yet) and she doesn't come off with a lot of attitude or ghetto styling (yet). I've seen and heard her in a few interviews and she's almost too 'nice' for the industry but she's survived for a sophomore effort. Her new album Touch is due in May and she's working with many a few other producers and unfortunately has a duet with Carl Thomas but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's solid. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

While not a purely consistent album, Yahzarah's "Black Star" smokes this chick's album out of the water. Some of these tracks fuckin slam, especially "Baby Love". Girl has the voice to back it up. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Get out of my Kitchen, telling me how to cook. It aint none of your business, aint no need to look 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Damn, I love Yahzarah but no one ever knows who she is so she's my private joy. I wouldn't even think of Amerie in the same category/league--I like both but you're right, Yahzarah has some hot tracks. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I think many black artists are pigeonholed by their skin and that song just proves that some people were born to rock . Blackstar is what sold me on her. That and Baby Love. I wish I could see her perform live. I'm gonna have to dig that CD out wish makes me think... is anybody hip to Conya Doss? I discovered her and Yahzarah around the same time. I've only heard a little of N'Dambi but I think I need to check her out because her name keeps coming up. I think the album cover deterred me a bit but I'll add her to the list. [Edited 3/1/05 15:24pm] Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off
