Missy Higgins - Aussie version of early Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple, Sarah McLachlan, and a wee bit of Norah Jones

Missy Higgins, The Sound Of White.

Her album has done amazingly well in Australia, she just won an MTV Australia Video Music Award for Best Breakthrough Artist and the album is about to be released in the States.

I recommend you hunt down this album if you like the aforementioned artists...

nod

One of my favourite albums of 2005 so far.

I swear, they're churning these "semi-sexy-yet-demure female singer/songwriters who sit at the piano and sing pretty but vacant lyrics about adolescent love and heartbreak" out at an alarming rate. Somewhere there's a factory.

If Delta Goodrem and PJ Harvey had a love child....

I just threw up in my mouth a little there....

Sorry, but seeing Dido, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, and (sorry Tori fans) Tori's names along side Joni's just gave me a little scare.

well i was just searching for some comparisons....she's more like a young, but Aussie Joni than any of the others though.

First of all, she's not semi-sexy, she's totally sexy.

Second, her songs are very well written and most of them have a discernible hook....

Third....are you Australian? Delta and PJ Harvey's lovechild? No, not really.

well, VISUALLY, I can see that. Good observation. But MUSICALLY, she's quite different than both of those artists.

lol VISUALLY is what I was talking about. You know, in an "If they mated..." sort of way.

I haven't listened to this chick, although as minneapolisgenius said, the only name that gets me even remotely interested in that pack is Joni Mitchell.

Thanks, I'll have to give that a serious listen later (don't have my earbuds with me at the moment).

She looks more like Mandy Moore on her official site. lol

joni was good but now even joni is no joni.

and this child has no comparable tori-esque qualities from what i can tell thus far.

I don't really follow what Joni is doing at present, so I couldn't say. But I'm a huge fan of her early work.

no, she's pretty unique really. the only reason i said tori is because of some of the piano ballads and joni because of the folky melodies and lyrics.

They r trying to break Delta here in france also, she drives crazy she reminds me of Celine, now Missy what's her face! Australia already gave us Tina Arena, and we're still trying to get rid of her!
