This album is one of my favorites too. The RIT definately made me appreciate it more. I don't see how people can love albums like Like A Virgin but call AL crap.

I'm always amazed when I discuss Madonna with somebody, and they say "Well,I like her old stuff".Wtf? It's as if they prefer her mindless 80s pop hits over the more serious, creative stuff that she does now.The same people who say 'American Life' is crap are the same folks who insist that 'Like A Virgin' is a masterpiece confuse

they're also (many times) the same people who rag on britney and the other pop tarts. confuse

I think P fans are realistic when it comes to his movies and everyone recognizes that For You is rather weak compared to his competitors at the time. The people who say they like Graffiti Bridge are just fooling around, right? confused

um, in a word: no. look, there are prince fans who actually like jughead. let's not even get into those who love newpowersoul. some fans even called rave un2 the joy fantastic a return to form and a comeback. uh uh. some prince fans are just as blind as some madonna fans. lol

no its called having different tastes, i love "strollin", "slow love" and the WHOLE of "musicology" and other people think its complete garbage, whilst people think lovesexy is great when i think its average. Its the same with any artist i love madonna's 80's stuff but hate "AL" and "ray of light". ITS JUST PEOPLE'S PREFERENCES!!!!!

I REALLY liked AL when it was released, but it hasn't held-up well for me.

With the exception of Nothing Fails and Nobody Knows Me, I tired of the CD very quickly...

"Ray of Light" was a nice artistic statement, but I think we can all agree she's in an electronica funk now.

Nice try, but no. I don't like American Life, but I don't like Like a Virgin either. It is possible to dislike both pieces of doo doo.

lesbians first claimed the symbol as their own while gay men used the rainbow....gay men then starting claiming the pink triangle after everyone and their mother sported the rainbow flag/sticker...

you know us boys..always gotta be "cutting edge"..i hear this is going to be the new symbol soon:

actully my dear. the pink triangle was used by gay men before the rainbow. the lesbians are starting to sport the black triangle which the NAZI's way of identifying lesbians. i have a friend in PS who claims that the Pink Triangle was first used by gay men in NY in the 60's. It's starting to become popular again with the further fragmentation of the gay community.

with each community having it's own flag

bears, leather, bi, trans. so why not have something seperate for gays and lesibans.

dont know. shrug but here in the bay area the pink triangle was used for lesbian night during pride...lesbians had it on their cars..it was a lesbian thing...im talking 90's here....all the guys had the rainbow flags on their cars....then in the late 90's (ive often wondered if it had to do with a couple high profile gay bashing cases here in the bay area) guys stopped putting the flag stickers on their cars and then more and more started sporting the triangle..

just my lil observation of my own enviroment....

Not to nitpick, but this lyric says everything about what's annoying about her these days. Don't watch TV? How's anyone gonna hear what she has to say. Not on the radio, that's for sure...

Madonna has been cast to voice the part of Princess Selenia in the upcoming animated motion picture Arthur. The $80 million film is based on Luc Besson's series of children's. Besson wrote the screenplay and will direct the film, which is expected to hit theaters in 2006.

She's talking about herself.
She doesn't watch tv or read magazines to avoid lies (as stated in the lyrics above that) that people say about her.
She isn't talking about everybody rebelling against television.

Maybe if you actually listen to the song, you may get the message... just a thought

Indeed. This album will never be seen as something great... it is just too bland, too easy, too forgetable.

Her 'coffee-rap' will be not seen as sumthing funny, but as sumthing ridiculous, her rendition of Imagine on the tour as overreaching... just a few political references does not make her John Lennon, for Chris's sake!
