I admire Led Zeppelin esp for the fact that they never released a single
but my vote goes for Pink Floyd. The Final Cut is an underated gem. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

2 of the most amazing groups ever! If I had to chose one? wow??

This has always been a tough one for me. I LOVE both bands and hate choosing!
BUT, since your asking to choose one...um...well, Floyd has some of the most brilliant albums of all time. I mean...Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall have been in yearly rotation since I was 14. Animals, UmmaGumma, and the Barrett years are good but I don't play them very often...never did. However, Zepplin has more SONGS and from Zep I to Physical...each album is flawless (with the exception of Hats Off to Roy Harper on III) ...I even think Presence and In Through are great just not quite as good as the 1st 5. So um...song for song I think Zep wins. Shocker, huh Minne??

Zeppelin kicks their asses to hell. Floyd were boring and had no stage presence and their music was overblown crap.

Um...neither?
both have a handful of great songs and a whole load of overrated bloated filler. I think I'd enjoy Zep a lot better if it didn't have that old sound to it. I hate that 70's production, even after remastering. I guess I need to get myself to a Led Zep tribute and hear the songs as they should sound, maybe that'd help? Any British people seen Fred Zepellin live? They are a Birmingham based band with a HUGE following. Are they any good?

Any British people seen Fred Zepellin live? They are a Birmingham based band with a HUGE following. Are they any good? You don't like Zeppelin, but you're interested in seeing a tribute band? Maybe you should hear some of their live performances, and hear Zeppelin "as they should sound". Start with the "How The West Was Won" live cds, and then let me know what you think. The production on Zeppelin's albums is great. Page was a wiz in the studio, and was known for being meticulous with his orchestration of what he called his "guitar army". Just listen to the beautiful harmonies of his overdubs at the end of "In The Light" for example. I hear something new in it every time I listen to it, and I must have heard that song a thousand times. Obviously, live it was near impossible to re-create the richness of that sound, with there being only one guitarist, but somehow live they kick ass even more. Their live shows are legendary, usually lasting about 3 and a half hours of endless energy among the four of them. They really had a sort of telepathic connection between them onstage, and could do amazing things when they were in good form. What do you mean by "70s production"? I just don't hear it. I don't agree with the overrated, bloated filler comment either. It's a matter of opinion of course, but I think it's fair to say that both Pink Floyd and Zeppelin have more than a "handful" of good songs. I guess when you're a big fan of a band though, you don't don't consider their songs "filler". Although, speaking of loads of filler, another of my favorite artists comes to mind.... *coughPrincecough* Anyway, I've never heard Fred Zeppelin, so I don't know if they're good or not. can't spell edit [Edited 3/7/05 10:54am] "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I'm a HUGE fan of both bands and they have both influenced me as a musician and songwriter. I have dug both bands every since I was 9 years old. David Gilmour AND Jimmy Page are also huge influences on me as a guitarist. That said, I can't compare them as bands because they both have elements that neither one share. Yeah, I've always wondered why there's a hug fan crossover bewteen the two, yet they are so different. Probably because they were both blues based which in their cases, equates funkiness. Their sounds was very "visual". And they were both experimental. Although their approaches were very different, their "execution" was the same. They were both extremely confident in what they were doing and when u have all of those elements that I mentioned, people are going to dig u. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I personally love both, but I started off a Pink Floyd fan, so I gotta go with them. Apples and oranges though.
Floyd are much more esoteric and arty. Zepplin just plain rock. Gilmour is an incredibly under-rated guitarist, and we all KNOW Page is a master. Drums? C'mon, NOBODY is better than Bonham. Vocals? Gilmour has the most pleasant voice. Waters is only good in the context of their music. Plant just wails (this is a good thing)! Bass? Hmmm. Don't think I have a preference. Y'know what? Both bands kick all kinds of ass, and deserve the respect they get!!! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Zepp in the 70's, were regarded as "rock gods". I mean, in the 70's, your bedroom wasn't complete if u didn't have the poster of Page with the dragon pants and the double neck guitar. Zeppelin took groupies to a higher level and all the mystery and shit surrounding the band. That's more of a "rock star" vibe than anything. The 8 mansions, 10 Rolls Royce's, 759 guitars, your own jet, shag everywhere. The shark. U know? That was the standard pretty much set by Zepp. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I really can't give a major overall preference, since both were trying to accomplish VERY different things. Let me put it this way: Floyd was like a mind-trip, while Zep is a full-body high! Both are cool. Just depends on what you're in the mood for. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Pink Floyd, but it's really just a personal preference. Robert Plant's screaming can give me a splitting headache after a while, and make my nerves a wreck. I usually prefer stuff thats more contemplative than just something to jam along to. I'm kinda burned out on both bands really, because they've been so celebrated and overplayed for decades now. If I'm in a Pink Floyd mood, I usually jump to stuff like Atom Heart Mother...

I just recently re-discovered Atom Heart Mother. I hated that album when I was younger, but hearing it as an adult I found a new appreciation for it. Its really under-rated. I'm also gonna go with Floyd. I like Zeppelin a lot, and like quite a bit of their catalog, but I'd have to agree with the fact that Plant needed to learn a bit of restraint. Plus, Gilmore is my favorite guitarist ever. As cliched as it sounds, Comfortably Numb has my favorite guitar solo in it, and his work on Wish You Were Here is goosebump worthy.
Pink Floyd definitely didn't have the stage presence that Zeppelin had, however. So that's one thing they have over PF. I am going to subtract another point from Zep because Stairway, Black Dog, and Rock and Roll have been so overplayed that I never need to take out ZOSO again (except maybe to hear Going to California). I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Of course they're still great, I just don't play them at home too often anymore. But if I hear them on the radio, of course I have to blast them as loud as it will go. To eleven. (then I DID just discover that there is such a thing as "classic rock" radio stations like last summer though. The whole concept of hearing Zeppelin OR Floyd on the radio is totally new to me. ) "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
