No one ever said "Black" wasn't good enough!
Whether Prince is Blue or Purple, I don't honestly think he'd lie about his mixed heritage...come on!

Prince is a black man of course, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a mixed background.

Gonna quote LauraRichardson & DavidEye here:

DavidEye said:

laurarichardson said:

If you look at his parents and his siblings that are just light African-Americans. I am sure due to Slavery he has some white people back in his family tree but P is not even light enough to pass himself off as white.

I just think he said all that crap in the begnining of his carreer because he did not want to get lumped in to the RnB genre.

I agree with Laura.Prince is black, but he just "pretended" to be racially mixed so he wouldn't get lumped into the R&B category.Plus,in the early days of his career,he liked playing games with the media and confusing people.Ask him today and he will tell you that he is a black man.

*****

Back to your mess...

I don't like the comment "YOU PEOPLE", because your talking to just one person here. Don't highlight my post and then say "YOU PEOPLE", because thats pure ignorance on your part.

chair When I say "you people" I'm talking to every mf on this board who's under the impression that Prince is not Black. I'm using your quote as an example b/c it's the one that got me annoyed. WTF is ignorant about that? YOU're one of the PEOPLE under that assumption... neutral

Alot of black are finding out more and more about their heritage and thats a great thing...so to accept everything about your racial makeup is great...I don't see anything wrong with it.

It is a great thing. What's not a great thing is when people clamor to be anything other than Black. That's real too. I really don't understand the intense need to label P as "mixed" when his parents are Black. I just don't get it. confused To me it says more about the labeler...

Whats the big deal!?
Anyhow...as I stated b4, I am a black man, very proud of it...but I'm not gonna go around and ignore my latin roots also.

Did you read anything I actually said or are you too busy focusing on your own mixed heritage to notice Prince is Black? confuse

I've always been taught to embrace all of me and be proud of where I came from...This is just stupid.

I'm glad Mariah is featured on Essence, she's just as much black as anyone else is.
If she's been on Latina or Jet Magazine, it doesn't matter...alot of hispanics have african roots, so nothings wrong with embracing it all.

God Bless u all.

Yea... dude is Black... live w/ it neutral

I think some of ya'll are confusing being "mixed" with having some indian in ya family.

My niece and nephew are "mixed", biracial...the momma is white and daddy is black....whereas Prince's mamma is black...daddy..black....."he got indian in his family" ....some miscegnation..that most BLACK ppl have and yet we identify with being BLACK.

I do think its getting to the point if you say you're Black and you're light skinned and your hair is curly, the miscegnation police are there with the handcuffs....

Twins in Black and White
You share your birthday with at least nine million other people in the world.

(these girls can make that 9,000,001!)

Source: The Evening Post Monday 26 June 2000

Twins Have Different Fathers
A Croatian woman who slept with two men at the same time has given birth to twins with two different fathers. The 23-year-old student, who has been named only as M B, gave birth to non-identical twins in Zagreb seven months ago. However, she has revealed that DNA testing has shown the children have different fathers.

She told daily Jutarnji List, "I was shocked at getting pregnant and even more surprised when doctors told me that my two sons had different fathers." Doctors have said twins being born to different fathers is extremely rare.

Four Parents: One Pregnancy: Two Non - Twin Babies
as reported in Newsweek, April 12, 1999
One month into her pregnancy, Donna Fasano got a call from her New York fertility specialist. A mistake had been made, she was told, when she was implanted with fertilized eggts. Fasano had not only received her own eggs, fertilized by her husband, Richard, the doctor said. Fertilized eggs from another couple had mistakenly been implanted in her, as well. Last December Fasano gave birth to twin boys: one white, one black! The Fasanos are white. Deborah and Robert Rogers are African-Americans who were patients at the same clinic and they believe the black child is their son.
Last week the Fasanos said they would give the black child to the Rogerses, who were demanding custody, provided genetic testing confirms that they are the biological parents. Through their attorney, the Fasanos stressed that they loved both boys and that race was not a factor, but that they did not want to separate a child from his natural parents. The Fasanos are insisting that they and their son stay in contact with the Rogerses' child. "The children did share a womb," said Rudolph Silas, attorney for the Roferses. "We will work something out."

eek Lawsuit! LOL

I read an article where both parents were of the same race, somewhat. I believe the father had white in his ancestry, but by appearance was black. And they had twin boys. 1 black and 1 white. I can't find the article or picture though. confused Anyway...this thread reminded me of these stories. Just wanted to share. Now back to our regularly scheduled programme! biggrin

She's been on the cover of Jet and Latina magazine....

The problem with Mariah is she creates the misunderstanding by being incomprehensible. Ego Trip's Race-O-Rama called her a tragic mulatto. She is. I'm sure she will send a letter to Essence for labeling her a black woman and have them retract it. However, she does seem to be more "black" these days. It's all about the money and what race will benefit her for the moment. She has insinuated in past interviews that her "whiteness" was more of a creation of her ex-husband. In one of my Jet magazines, she sad that she used to say she was black when people would ask her what race she was (before fame) and would immediately follow-up with "what are you mixed with?" She decided to stop saying she was black and just list what she is mixed with. It's a little silly because all black americans are mixed

Mariah's father was half black Venezulean and half African American, His real last name is NUNEZ not CArey, he changed when he moved to America

I never bought that name change story...it's not common latino's regardless of their race changing their surnames when coming to the USA...being Latino our last names are our pride, and I heard her father was a Black Venezolano NOT mixed with African-American and Afro-Venezolano.

Um, that is mixed.

Besides, go back far enough, and not one person is strictly one ethnicity anyway. Even if all you're talking about is French/English heritage, that's still having a mixed ancestry. And with both nationalities, go back far enough and you've got German, Viking, and Italian(Roman) in there too. And if you believe in evolution; go back even farther and you've got black ancestry as well.

Everyone's mixed. Being 100% anything is impossible.
