To me, it's #1 (followed closely by his first solo release). I sincerely hated rap until this album was born. I'm a big fan of Ice Cube -- other hip-hop artists might think they're just as good, "but they don't come close!" Ain't no one had beats and rhymes like 'Cube. NO ONE!! My fav song is "No Vaseline" -- which (by coincidence) includes a sampled yelling scream by Prince, I believe. Eazy-E and NWA had some great stuff too, and all their associated artists -- remember Yo-Yo?

edit:
oh yeah, and Too $hort was another rap artist I really liked. I also listened to DJ Quik -- and that was about it. The rap of today makes very little sense to me unless its flavored with some funk and/or R&B.

If you ever see this album at your local record BUY IT! I promise you will not be disappointed. Cube touch on many issues like: racism, the state of hip-hop,police brutality & gang violence. Everytime I listen to this album it gives hope me that perhaps hip-hop can be saved.

I think Ice Cube's best is his 1990 solo debut

It's one of those things I promised myself I'd get around to & just never did. I wanted his whole catalogue (up to the point of weakness) but I just never had the $ while it was on my mind...

nod Yeah. Me Too b/c back then he didn't care about being pc and said fuck the mainstream. A lot rappers today are pussies compared to Cube even now b/c they don't have enough balls to stand up for what they beleive in and kiss Pop Radio ass.

clapping Well said Hotlegs. His insights, his social commentary & delivery makes this one of the best hip-hop album period. And what really seperates Cube from the rest of these knuckleheads is that he always give you something to think about, not talkin about how many ho's he's fuck & how much money he has & bling-bling. Cube was/is serious about his art.

Aw man words can't express how much I love this album. There is not one song on there that I skip I listen to it the whole way thru. They don't make albums like this anymore. To think my friends think Em's new cd is flawless and classic when this cd shits on all of his albums put together and alot of the last five years of recently released music in hiphop. Anybody who loves music should own this album. It is one of the greatest albums of all time. "I Wanna Kill Sam" gave me goosebumps the 1st time I heard it. Damn I gotta play this cd rite now biggrin. Alot of mc's today should study this and Public Enemys "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" "Bring The Noize is the way 2 start a album off.

This is the one of the few rap albums I can stand.

Honest, in your face, offensive, with no apologies.

His crown jewel.

Amazing now he is making disney movies..... He went after everyone under the sun on that album, I read that he said he would never make an album like that again since he got so much flack.

Bootlegs and b-sides also has some great remix's

IMO Up there with It takes a nation and the low end theory for best rap album ever...

THe villain does get F&cked in the end with no vaseline.....
Music is the best...

Yes, I completely agree with you, but I slightly prefer The Predator.

and I was dumb enough to believe Cube was really about Black power. Predator was his apex though.
