Betty Davis article and Interview in MOJO (feb issue)

Sorry, I know this is late, but there's a 3-page aricle and interview on the Original Funk Queen Betty Davis in the Febuary issue of Mojo magazine! --

--includes a slightly tame (and possibly disingenuous) answer to that " He Was A Big Freak" question, lol

yeah, i bought this when it came out. it was really good and i liked the rare photos but i wish there were photos of what she looks like today. i thought it was depressing that she barely makes it financially and spends her days watching soaps. what a waste of talent.

I have never heard of Betty Davis until I joined the org. I've noticed her name has come up several times from many of the hardcore funk lovers here so I definately will be looking for some of her music.

Where do I start? Is any of her music available on CD or do I need to be checking the used record stores for vinyl? Does she have a greatest hits compilation? If not, what's a good album to start with?

I just looked her up on allmusic.com...what happened to her. Seems like she was gaining a cult following and only released three albums (her forth was abadonded but evantually released in two different forms). What's the deal?

She has a greatest hits collection available as an import. The name of it has escaped me. But if you wanna start with an album, I'd go with the eponymous debut.

btw, this was an awesome issue of Mojo. The CD included this month is songs that inspired the Sex Pistols. I've been loving the Can song, and "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways. smile
