GREAT SINGLES THAT MISSED THE CHARTS? anybody have a favourite song that was released but didnt chart or wasnt a hit?....i think one of the greatest songs ever released in the 80s not to make the top 75 was the brilliant "tinseltown in the rain" a lot of people in the uk regard this song as a classic but it never even charted in the top 75 singles !!!! amazing....a wonderful, timeless song that i never get tired of hearing.

All the great songs released only to radio before the chart rules were changed in '98. [Edited 3/4/05 4:21am]

It's almost a crime that this song wasn't officially released as a single. It got MASSIVE radio airplay in the spring/summer of '85.It would have been a surefire Number One single.

How stupid Indeed.I guess Warners didn't want this song to compete with her "Like A Virgin" singles, which were still going strong. But Warners wised up as the years went by.In 1989,Madonna recorded the song "Vogue" as a throwaway B-side to "Keep It Together".Warners heard this song and demanded that she release it as a single in it's own right. It went straight to Number One.

Downtown Lights should have been a huge hit as well - I don't know how it fared on the UK charts, but it died without a trace in North America. It's been covered a few times since then, but I don't think any version of it has ever charted. Apparently a Blue Nile album was released last year - it remains unheard by me, but it received fairly positive reviews.

A lot of 80s alternative couldn't find a place on U.S. top 40 radio. For example: The Smiths never had a chart single in the U.S. "How Soon Is Now?" should have at least made the bottom 50. It's a shame.
