jill scott..golden...........boring boring?

ive been trying to convince myself for months now that i love jills new album.

i dont.its plain boring sad
after months i cannot say apart from the title track there is one track that has connected with me
i guess i was so looking forward to it..loved the single golden..loved jill...seen her live many times

perhaps its because i will always compare every jill release to who is??

does anyone strongly disagree??

please note..I AM NOT SLAGGING OFF JILL..its just i find myself totally underwhelmed by this cd neutral

Wow. I literally JUST had this discussion with a friend moments ago especially since I am going to see Jill tomorrow. I feel sort of ambivalent about it Beautifully Human. It's good. I think the quality of the music is much better than a lot of stuff that's out now. However, I've played it maybe three or four times, about the same amount of times as the friend I was speaking to. Know one talks about it, you don't hear it playing in the distance somewhere... I think the only song I kind of dug deeply aside from Golden was Not Like Crazy. It's just not irresistable. A tad forgettable. I enjoy her live performances but I won't be singing along with her to songs from this album because I don't know them.

I feel completely opposite. I actually like Beautifully Human better than the first one because she is singing more. She was talking way too much on Who is IMO. Spoken poetry just does not appeal to me. There is absolutely nothing on the first cd that moves me like Golden, Family Reunion, Bedda at Home, Whatever, and Petition.

I absolutely hate Family Reunion from the first time I heard it and my feelings haven't changed. But the one thing I did notice about this CD (and it's one of the things that kept me playing it for the time that I did) is she is showcasing her vocal abilities more and I like that. Oh yeah, I like Petition too but you can play Who Is... practically straight through. Every song is like whoa. From Jilltro to Long Walk to Slowly Surely whew. But in retrospect, now that I know what she can do vocally in the studio and live, I'd like to hear her resing those same songs now. She's a bit freer on BH.

I love all 3 of her releases including the Live album...maybe it's just because I am a fan period...I do agree she is singing more on this album...but I feel if she did put out another getting in the way or Long walk people would still be slamming her for doing that...I personally like BH equally as her debut...my favorite cut being Cross my mind...makes me say I need to find me a man that can bump our bed way over mountain edges... now thats whats up!!!!

I love this album especially I Keep and Still Here. Ilisten to the live album more than I listen to the first or third one.

It's a very mature, laid back CD that I play when ever I want that OLD SCHOOL vibe from a younger person's viewpoint.

well, yes. one can only hear the words "livin my life like it's golden" about 3000 times in one run-through of a song before they have to conclude that he or she is bored.

nod I feel what you are saying. That's why I didnt' buy her CD after hearing it from a friend of mine house. I prefer my girl Badu over her.
