lol

50 Cent is nothing but a pompous,arrogant,thugged-out idiot. He's not even a good rapper....his delivery is flat, slow and boring. His ego is out of control. After reading his new interview/cover story in Vibe magazine,I hate him even more.

I totally agree. He's an awful influence on young people and anyone associated with him should be ashamed. Although, people that do hang with 50 are only looking for money and hoping to get laid by one of the video skanks! They know no shame.

They still here, it just that they dont appeal to MTV and other pop radio stations (no bullet wounds, no 6 pacs, no ring tones, no mtv), So none of the young cats never get to appriciate them like we do.

You can get similar real hip hop that Rakim, Gangstarr and Public Enemy represented by listening to (IMO):

Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Common
Outkast (maybe??)

While everyone is blowing up 50 Cent, i'm looking forward to Common's "BE" album thats gonna be released soon...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

His popularity is due to a few important factors.

1)His past is interesting. Ever since 2PAC was shot 5 times (not the later killing) and survived, it appears to be a mark of credibility to have been sprayed with a gun. This guy was shot 9 times and lived. His background for the most part appears genuine. This means that even if he is rapping on commercial party songs and love tracks for the ladies, he still has crediblity.

2) He was signed for millions. He is produced by Dr Dre, Eminem and other notables. He knows his way around a hook. He is aware of what the popular audiences want and he gives it to them. He reserves his 'harder' material for mix-tapes sold directly to the street.

3) He does street songs with a 'mean' persona. However, he is not afraid to show a more sensitive side that many rappers (such as The Game) avoid. Check '21 Questions' which is essentially a love song. That means both men and women like him. He also has the habit of releasing good party songs that make people dance.

4) HYPE. He has 'beefs' with various rappers. He is highly opinionated. There is drama all around him. This makes for headlines, headlines make for sales.
Add the above 4 points together and you have 11 million sales.

Ultimately, I think he is more intelligent than many of you give him credit for. This is Capitalism. There is demand and he supplies it.It is that calculated.

This is commercial rap. Nothing deep is required. 50 Cent is not the best, but he is certainly not the worst.

Peace

good post. bow

part of me wants to accept this view of him and take on the cool aging music geek's attitude of, "if the kids like it and everyone else hates it, then it's gotta be doing its job - we're not meant to appreciate it unless we're in a position where we can."

another part of me is like, "naaah, crap is crap is crap." i can appreciate button-pushing media whores with the best of 'em, and the good ones are able to ride the hype while bringing something good to the table. i was kind of indifferent to 50 until i saw him crap up his performance on SNL. that was easily one of the worst performances by anyone doing anything that i've ever seen. i've seen people goofing around at work put on a better performance. it was so bad, i was kind of in awe of how little effort or personality he was able to exude and still keep that 'yeah, i'm the shit' smirk on his face. it didn't offend or rile or provoke me at all - it just depressed me, or at best, touched a slight nerve of negative fascination.

He's just not that good, period. He sold a gangsta story that worked. He had a smash hit that even I liked despite the content ("In Da Club") and that's pretty much what he's been coasting on ever since.

He is a walking sterotype. Another rapper playing the "Coon Role and that is about as deep as it gets with this guy. As soon as he gets killed or sent to prison the music industry will find another coon to play the ganster role.

lol normally,I wouldn't smile at a statement like that, but this is 50 Cent we're talking about.

I know what you mean Davideye. Whether he was 6 feet under or in jail, I wouldn't miss the thug either.

Yea, they kill Lennon with 1 shot and 50 Cent lives after taking 9 shots.. Where's the justice..

The CD booklet shows 50 splitting a mound of coke and shooting AK's out the window of his car.. It's one thing when Al Pacino does it, but rappers aren't supposed to be acting.. I hope 50 can sleep at night knowing he's influencing a generation to deal coke and shoot each other, shit maybe they'll get rich or die tryin too...

He's supposedly telling a story, at least that's what he said on "106 and Park". So in essence I suppose he's trying to be like Al Pacino.

I got this from another board, the link is kinda graphic. Starters with a stripper broad, showing her guts so far in you can probably see her urinary tract, and if that's not digusting enough she then proceeds to stuff a heinken bottle in it and get off.

After 50 theres talking and from the looks of it believing his own hype.

I think it's safe to say he doesn't appeal to a real lady.

A lady of the night, maybe.
