opening act was Destiny's Child (whodathoughit?)

and my "hometown hero" Sisquo (Mr. Thong Song)
jumped on stage at some point and was trying to "freak" Beyonce

My first concert--with front row seats--was the Jackson Five at the Michigan State Fair here in Detroit. My godmother had a hook-up with the Music Director. The opening act was the Commodores. This was summer of 1970. I was all of eight years old and completely awestruck. I even got to go "backstage" (behind the bandshell) to see them up close. They each walked past me within five feet. I almost died. And the worst thing was that no one in school believed me the next day.

I was in the 9th grade and sooo excited being my first concert and all. It was a great show- my tickets were "gen adm" ($17.50!!!) so we showed up early and charged the stage to be up front! I've got pictures of the show that I took (somewhere). It was the tour for "Lap of Luxury"- they did The Flame, Don't Be Cruel, I Want You to Want Me, Ain't That a Shame, Surrender, Dream Police, On Top of the World, California Man, High Roller to name a few. Oh... those were the days. All the kids showed up for LA Guns, but I was there for Cheap Trick!!!

My favorite Cheap Trick song is Surrender. It was a cool show- The Flame was an audience favorite! I'm not a fan of LA Guns but they rocked.
