There are some funky people on the thread.... FUNKATEERS UNITE!!!! Yeah-baby!! Some of us truly know our funk! But fellow funkateers, help me in this area, after being breast feed on funk for many many years, I have a low ear tolorance level for much of today's music. 50 cents, Usher, Beyonce, Janet, Britney, man I can't listen to none of that! I know it's not because I'm a oldhead, for I dig Alesia Keyes, Van Hunt and a few others from todays music, but if it doesn't have a live band in the studio, I can't feel it, it's stale, one dimensional. | |

Without a doubt Eddie. I've heard live and studio versions of Hampton's version and they're good but they just don't compare to the feeling that Eddie put into his playing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[Edited 3/2/05 10:13am] Well, the way I cope is because I'm continuously discovering 'new' old music. For instance if I go out and find that Ruth Copeland disc, it would be like discovering a brand new album Because of this, I really don't care what is going on in the charts. Now and again there will be something fresh and funky, but never as consistently as back in the day, so I never keep my hopes up. I buy CD's on such a frequent basis that I have a back-log of unheard album cuts piled up that I need to get through. I suspect some guys round here do actually lower their standards and dangerously subject themselves to the pre-processed dross, and bathe themselves in the faux-funk thinking it's hip. ..... How old was everybody when they first heard Funkadelic? I mentioned in the 'March To The Witch's Castle' thread' that I was pretty young, about 7 or eight, so, while I liked the music, I thought they were pretty scary(Still do!, LOl!!), at that age, I just wasn't ready for most of the shit they were dealing with conceptually--I remember being at an older cousin's house and seeing the cover for 'America Eats Its Young:

I lucked out, cuz I have an older cousin that might as well played in P-Funk. He had EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING. So, anyway, come time for him to move to New York with his new wife and guess what? He wants to unload ALL of his shit on me. By this time, I'm like 13, so I've been hip to P-Funk for 5 years easy. He always had all this rare shit, not just the standard funk. So, that's where I got Ruth's albums, Eddie's albums, u know. I never had to hunt down for that shit when it got fashionable in the 90's and record stores were selling Hazel's lp's for 200.00 and Bootsy's "Ultrawave" for 75.00. Stoopid shit like that. But, I learned a lot of my chops from those albums, wearing the shit out of the wax. So, yeah, I ended up getting "Gimmie Shelter" which is a comp of the 2 albums on cd, import. I bump all of that shit in my ride. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
