( backstreet's back, the backstreet boys, millenium, black n blue, chapter 1: greatest hits ).
wait til springtime for the new album from the pop group of the late 90s that took over MTV and the radio in the early 2000-01 until they decided to take a break to focus on themselves and there own lives. now they are back. welcome them back.

i'm not even going to mention that at one time, when i was 21, my entire room was decorated in Backstreet Boys posters. was i being ironic? or sincere? hmmm. i did have all of their CD's, though... including the import versions of the albums and all the b-sides but i still like 'em tho "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Shouldn't they be called Backstreet Men by now? LOL.
I'm sure there are a few "boys" in their 30s in that group.

I'm sure there are a few "boys" in their 30s in that group. By the time they're through with all their birthdays in 2005, they'll be: Nick -25 AJ -27 Brian -30 Howie -32 Kevin -33 Personally, I'm pretty fucking impressed they're still around! 12 years is a damn long time for a boyband to stick together. Despite all the bullshit that comes along with being a pre-fab group, and one of Lou Pearlman's I've loved them for the longest time, but I find I've got a lot more respect for them these past few years since they've popped the boyband bubble somewhat and allowed the world to see them as real, flawed human beings instead of the shiny, happy, all-American, plastic children they were groomed to be. I've heard "Incomplete" and a few others already. I'm excited for the new album! But, the music world isn't the same one that they left. Boybands are no longer the flavour of the day. The Boys have definitely got their work cut out for them if they want to have even half the success their past albums did. They should expect to prepare for some hardcore, non-boybandy marketing. A name change might be something to consider too. "Backstreet Boys" has always sounded a bit goofy, but now it's getting downright stupid. [Edited 2/25/05 1:11am] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

U know NKOTB released by far there best and most mature album years after there peak (1994 "face the music") and thats one of my all time fav albums. So BB album could be good.
NKOTB matured with very good r'n'b cuts like "never let you go" "girls" and the funky flop "dirty dog". Backstreet boys could do the same. BUT NKOTB did flop, so maybe backstreet boys will too but hey it still could be good! I c a pettern.....u could tell that NKOTB wpuld release no more albums after "face the music". HAve B stil got the same manager, as NKOTB ditched svengali Maurice starr which was for once a good move.

For years, BSB was under the management of Donna and Johnny Wright and under total control of Lou Pearlman. After a series of instances of stealing money from the group, violating Florida child labour laws, putting members of the group in physical danger and creating a rival boyband behind their back, (N SYNC) the Boys finally woke up and took Pearlman to court. *N SYNC and other boybands under his creative control followed suit, having been fucked over in the same fashion. The Boys then self-managed for I believe 8 months, before hiring The Firm management team. Sometime in the past year, they've re-hired the Wrights. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I fucking adore them. They're one of my favorite groups because they can sing, unlike so many of today's popular acts. (Britney? Ashlee? Lindsay, anyone?) I saw them in concert - my first one, to be exact - and they were awesome. Sang and danced on every song, and it was live, not Memorex. And to counter the "boy band" argument, they played instruments, too. They're the real deal. I love their voices, and I'm looking forward to the new album.

Maurice starr previous to NKOTB fucked over New edition aswell.....I was so surprisd at how good NKOTB's "face the music" album was and still is. Becuase like baqckstreet boys, no one cares about the new release as people think they are finished.....

Say what????? Yeah, quite well. They are very talented guys who never get the respect they deserve. Lennon, as a Duran Duran fan, I think it's fair to say you can understand where I'm coming from on this. I've loved Duran Duran ever since I can remember, and I still have to defend their talent to others. And I still have to defend Prince, a freaking Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, for crying out loud. I apologize, but generalizations and blanket statements are really irritating. I've followed the Backstreet Boys for seven years, and they've never ceased to amaze with how dedicated they are to their music. Sure, they may not have written a lot of their early work, and I know they have worked with others on their new album - and this tends to be an argument for being manufactured, never mind the fact they've been together for 12 years - but they can sing the hell out of their songs. "I Want It That Way" is quite simply Backstreet. Nobody else could have done that song justice. [Edited 2/25/05 17:38pm]

We're not exactly gonna get a lot of serious replies about BSB on a Prince board.
Looks like rosemary forgot that Prince fans are allowed to like such steller (and my! how talented!) pop acts as Madonna, Kylie, and Janet, but a boyband would be too low to appreciate. j/k Say what you want about Backstreet Boys, but unlike most pop acts they never once lipsynched, and they knew when to get out of a fucked up financial and business situation, instead of going down with the ship like so many other acts have over the years. And don't like their songs eiter.. Simon LeBon is not a great singer, but Duran Duran is a band of friends, and you can hear and see that... That's why they excist such a long time..... BSB is just another trick of the industry. the beautiful ones, you always seem to loose

It's true that auditions were held, but the origins of the group aren't quite as clearcut as them just being an "audition" group. Nick, AJ, and Howie knew each other and were friends beforehand, auditioned for the boyband, and all ended up together. Auditions were held for the remaining two members. Two guys were picked, but the original three basically thought they were shitheads and kicked them out. Another audition was held, and that's where Kevin came from. Instead of holding a 3rd round of auditions, Kevin called up his cousin Brian, told him to haul his ass down to Florida to join this groovy new singing group, and Backstreet Boys were born. Like I've said -it's pretty amazing they've been around for 12 years. I'm curious -what was holding the group together these past five years since they've been in the spotlight? Money? They as good as fell off the face of the earth, they weren't making any money in that time. The orginal three members were friends before they were Backstreet Boys, and the other two are blood relatives. They've been known to spend a good chunk of their non-BSB downtime with each other. Seems to me that, auditions or no, they're friends. [Edited 2/26/05 18:55pm] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
