A true gothic masterpiece. Martha's Foolish Ginger, Mary's Of The Sea, Parasol and Orange Knickers are all brilliant too. The only tracks I'm not feeling are Witness and Ribbons Undone. Choirgirl Tori would've bitch-slapped the woman singing Ribbons Undone. Very true. And Witness would have been a much better track if the beginning and end were cut. That middle section is pretty hot. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

There's a few decent tracks on The Beekeeper but it's mostly quite tame and lifeless. I appreciate the argument that she's in a different head space these days but that shouldn't mean that the passion has to die. A shame, I was really looking forward to this album. It's not a bad record but the spark has definately gone.

Really? I'm like listening to it all day at work and then I come home and the songs go through my head and day after day like this and then my heart yawns opening and I feel like I'm falling in love. It's the music doing to me, the feeling inside it. But I'm not a music critic. I just go with the flow.

That's pretty much how I feel. No!! You're both wrong!!!! It's a brilliant album!!!! Seriously. I know these things Ah well. At least you don't hate it, that's a good thing. Maybe it will grow on you some. For some reason, it really connects with me in a way that Scarlet's Walk didn't (although I like it).

I do like the album more than I dislike it. I just wish it had a few more kicks. My order of her albums goes as follows: From The Choirgirl Hotel Under The Pink To Venus and Back Little Earthquakes Scarlets Walk The Beekeeper Boys For Pele Strange Little Girls you like The Beekeeper better than Boys for Pele? looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

I do play the shit out of Mary's of the Sea though. For some reason I'm really diggin that track. But I can dig on Parasol, Sweet the Sting, Witness, Original Sinsuality, and The Beekeeper. Pele tame?
I can't think of a word that less describes tracks like Blood Roses, Professional Widow, Muhammad My Friend and Horses. One thing I will say about The Beekeeper is that her label will be fools not to take advantage of some of her most commercial work in years. Sweet The Sting is probably the most commercially viable track she's ever made. Cars & Guitars and Orange Knickers also have chart potential. It'd be wonderful to see Tori have a hit. Not because I care about charts or anything, but it'd be nice not to have to explain who Tori Amos is to most people who ask me what music I like.

It took me a very long time to 'crack' it as well but once the pieces fell into place it revealed itself to be one of the best albums ever recorded. having said that, I still prefer "Choirgirl", but not because it is the better album (Pele is probably slightly better) but simply because it's been a great solace to me back when it was released. where the sun dont ever shine i will shiver the whole night through

Sweet The Sting is probably the most commercially viable track she's ever made. Cars & Guitars and Orange Knickers also have chart potential. Ugh! Orange Knickers gets the skip button right away. That's a very annoying track. It'd be wonderful to see Tori have a hit. Not because I care about charts or anything, but it'd be nice not to have to explain who Tori Amos is to most people who ask me what music I like. I don't see a commercial hit on this album at all, especially not Sleeps With Butterflies. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Maybe a bit less. she's definitely past her commercial peak. i don't think she'll be selling out arenas anytime soon, the way she did with choirgirl. notwithstanding, there are some catchy, even pop sounding, songs on the record. if norah jones can have success and josh groban can be a commercial success (though i'll never know why) i think some of these songs have potential. on top 40? no. adult contemporary, however, may have a place for her on their playlists. a sorta fairytale was a huge hit for her so i don't see why it couldn't happen here.
