So what's Chaka Khan up to these days? I finally bought her collection of jazz standards 'Classikhan' and it is a pleasant listen, but to be honest,I think she can do better.I'd rather have a new album containing newly-written songs, not remakes.(If these comments sound familiar,it's because I expressed the same sentiments on a recent Natalie Cole thread, lol).I really like what Chaka started with the 'Come 2 My House' album....a soulful, funky return to her 70s/Rufus sound. It would be a good idea if she could work with Prince again. He's responsible for producing her most vibrant album in years.Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with jazz, and Chaka certainly does a great job with this stuff, but I wanna hear a LOUD,gritty R&B album from her....where her voice can really do some damage, you know.Or maybe even the rock album that she promised us years ago.
Anybody agree? | |

I know it's the artist's perogative, and it's my own selfish impatience, But it always frustrates me when I'm waiting for a new album from one of my favorites (Chaka, Marilyn Scott, etc.), and they release an album of standards or covers!(or the dreaded 'Greatest Hits') I appreciate it , but that just means it's gonna be that much longer before some new material comes out..... It would be great to have another R&B album from Chaka.
Remember when she covered "Go to be there" in the early 80's? AWESOME!!!! Sorry, Michael Jackson never sang it like that!!!!!

She's releasing her RnB/Funk album THIS YEARS, ya'll!
I saw her in concert last year and she said that she's going to release the RnB album right after she drops "ClassiKhan". So far she made collaporations with: Wyclef Donnie Raphael Saadiq Mary J Jill Scott Angie Stone Roy Ayres Arif Mardin Ernie Isley For her upcoming album, so it should be good Not to mention, she's taping her "ClassiKhan" jazz gig for a DVD release. Great news!
Remember her Prince collaboration "Don't Talk 2 Strangers"? I loved it.

I don't feel like she's fond and enthusiastic about her Prince collaporation Everytime they ask her about Prince and working with him, she changes the subject quick.

She's also supposed to be on a track on the group Soulive's next CD.

Yeah, the 2001 Chaka/Rufus reunion was exciting.I saw them in concert with Earth Wind and Fire.I was hoping that it would lead to a new CD. I'm getting to the point now where I am SICK of cover albums of jazz standards. It's getting to be a bore.I wanna hear Chaka do a strong, loud, funky album where her voice can kick some ass!
