For Depeche Mode fans...

Just... because I love this song.
Martin L. Gore writes some beautiful lyrics...

Somebody

I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who'll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She'll get my support
She will listen to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my views may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She will hear me out
And won't easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she'll often disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and with every breath
Someone who'll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don't want to be tied
To anyone's strings
I'm carefully trying to steer clear
Of those things
But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I'll get away with it

The Martin sung songs are all among my faves of DM. Any Second Now, Blue Dress, Question Of Lust, Home, It Doesn't Matter. Good stuff! They make me feel like a teenage girl. sigh

Question of Lust is incredible; Martin Gore's voice may not be as good as Dave Gahan, but can definitely do a song justice.

have I imagined it or does Gore sing on Here Is The House from Black Celebration?

That's my fave Gore-sung track. Aside from that, give me Dave Gahan's vocals any day.

He sings and harmonizes a lot of their tracks. But I believe Dave takes the lead on that one.

redface I think I'm getting confused cos I saw Martin Gore sing it live once (just him and acoustic - unexpected for a DM gig, but great)

Great live band btw

For great concert footage you should check out the Devotional DVD as well as Depeche Mode 101.

Personally, I think its Black Celebration. Incidentally, that album has more songs sung by Gore than any other.

I love this song. I sung it to my fiancee on the night I proposed.

I think what Gore is trying to say with the line "though things like this make me sick, in case like this I'll get away with it" is that he normally doesn't go in for syrupy, sweet mushy stuff. In the case of true love, he'll make an exception. That's how I interpret it anyway.

And I have the same with songs sung by Lisa. Both she and Martin are not gifted singers, but they are very aware of their limitations and deliver, always, my favourite songs of the album. It's like, a rule or sumthing.
