I'm diggin' this Remy Shand CD!!!!

Okay,I finally had a chance to listen to this new CD by Remy Shand 'The Way I Feel'(Motown/Universal) and I LOVE it!! The album is mellow, with no uptempo or hip-hop tracks to spoil the mood.It has a laid-back,Old School R&B feel.As a vocalist,Remy is pretty good.I actually prefer his "normal" voice instead of the falsetto that he uses. Many people are comparing his sound to Maxwell, but you will also hear shades of Marvin Gaye,Stevie Wonder, and Al Green on various tracks. My favorite songs are...

***"The Way I Feel"---the title track is a nice, breezy song that should be the second single.Sounds like an outtake from Marvin's 'Here,My Dear' album.

***"Everlasting"---Maxwell or D'Angelo would kill for a song like this!!! A future classic!!

***"The Colour Of Day"---After hearing this bluesy song,I think Al Green should let this guy produce an album for him!

***"Take A Message"---the first single is a catchy little gem that is effectively soulful and warm.

***"Rocksteady"---Another winning track. In addition to being a great singer,Remy knows how to compose a song, with memorable hooks and melodies. This song stays in your head long after the CD finishes playing.

***"Looking Back on Vanity"---I would choose this as the third single. It's gorgeous!!!

This is the type of debut album that you'll be hearing all year long. It's the perfect "bedroom" album...lol...but also a nice CD to take along when you go for a long, summer drive.I'm impressed!!

Let's not get carried away. He's just another soul singer, but i doubt he's that deep.
he lacks more eclectism

This is funny. I heard a song on MTV 10 minutes ago, and thought: WOW! This is good, who is this? And yes, it was Remy Shand (he looks like Jamiroquai...) By your short review, it sounds just like the perfect CD for my taste. I'll buy it. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up! I saw his video and it was pretty cool. I might have to grab it, (or download it, I hardly ever buy cd's anymore).

I'm with you. Me and Wifey were watching BET and happened to catch the video for 'Take a Message'. We've been hooked ever since. We've been trying to spread the word through family and friends.

What a refreshing break from the gaahbage on the radio!

My brother burned me a copy of some downloads on Remy...I was impressed with the smoothness of his sound...his falsetto is impressive.

I have decided 2 go on ahead and buy this guy's disc.

See, it does work...download some music, share with brother, brother digs it...and buys a copy.

Record companies...what r u afraid of!

Anyway...Remy is cool.

Freespirit

I was immediately drawn to Remy's song "Take a Message". I remember back in January was the first time hearing/viewing the video. I was on the computer and upon hearing his voice for the first time... I literally paused (without looking)... Maxwell? Prince?. I then turned around in complete puzzlement... thinking.... Who is this guy? I think I stopped breathing for a brief moment , I then caught the name and title at the end of the video and proceeded the next day to purchase the album. Of course I waited eagerly for March 12th (the release date). Beforehand I did log onto his website and was able to hear clips from each song... it is not often that I listen to the complete album without skipping the majority. It seems he has alot of potential... we shall see where his musical career takes him. Live performances remain the staple to determine true musical talent, my opinion. Indeed it is a doggy dog world... "Life" was never meant to be easy. wink

Nonetheless, Remy Shand's album "The Way I Feel" is worth the purchase. Extremely pleasant to listen to.

Remy performed in DC this past week. I did not go but some of the DJ's on www.whur.com did and talked a lil bout it on air.

Basically one of the jocks said he looked like Shaggy from Scooby Doo and the only instrument he played was keyboards. His singing was just ok but the crowd seemed to enjoy him.

Still havent seen him live but so far all together? I'm not impressed. When I see live if I go, I'll let ya know!

peace!

There is no link, but here is the Vibe article from page 86:

Remy Shand: Mama Said

When Kedar Massenburg first heard Remy Shand's sinuous R&B vocal style, which sounds like a blend of Maxwell and Prince, the Motown Records president got curious. When he overcame his shock upon learning that Shand is white, he decided to ink a deal and make his video-directing debut for Shand's first single, "Take A Message." As a sign of things to come, the clip portrays Shand winning over a multicultural audience in an R&B club.

Shand has more in common with the musically self-suficient Prince than his voice: The 24-year-old Canadian handled all the instrumentation on his debut, The Way I Feel
with the sole execption of a few horn parts played by his high school band teacher. Back when Shand was 10, his parents opened a skateboard shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Between lessons and helping in the store, he spent countless hours in his bedroom, teaching himself to play instruments.

His seasoned falsetto certainly doesn't sound like it belongs to your average skate rat. Instead, it conjures images of '70s seduction scenes, replete with wife swapping and Moet. Surprisingly, for a time Shand says he was "fifty-fifty" about whether to sing his own material. "I thought to myself, Do I really want to get into this game?" He recalls, "Or do I just want to work on my songwriting skills?" He settled for both.

Shand recorded and mixed The Way I Feel in his bedroom at his folks' house. "My parents were there every step of the way," he says with a laugh. "I was in the middle of recording one song I had originally intended to add this whole fusion-jazz ending to, when my mom burst through the door and was like 'What the hell are you doing? Back to the hook!'" One listen to The Way I Feel and it's obvious this is a guy who listens to his mama.
