I grew up hearing this man's music around the house & on the radio. My dad had his first 4 albums :
The Art of Tea Sleeping Gypyies Birchfield Nines Tiger in the Rain I have inheired those albums and bought for myself Passionfruit Objects of Desire One Bad Habit The Best of... If you'll brand new to his music it'll take a while to getting use to, otherwise he'll put you to sleep. Also the funny thing about him is that he can write a song about almost anything. He's one of my favorite jazz vocalist. I trace his music to my early childhood when the only thing I worried about was missing Seseame Street. Favorite songs: Monkey See, Monkey Do Popsicle Toes Eggplant the Lady Wants to Know Don't Be Blue When the Cookie Jar is Empty The entire "Tiger in the rain" Never Sastified Ladies' Night When Sly Calls Your Secret's Safe with Me and others....

Since he's not that mainstream or well known outside the smooth jazz circles, it's hard to be "out" as a Michael Franks fan...compared to other popular smooth jazz artists like "Fourplay" or "bob james" or "bobby caldwell"... I would not put him in the so called "Smooth Jazz" catergory... He's far better than that... Whenever I hear Smooth jazz, I think of Kenny G. and Boney James and they suck too much to make Mike a part of that! Besides he's been around long before that term even came into being. dunno.. maybe not, cause he didn't have any real "hits" if Mandy Moore can have a greatest hits cd, surely they could do a compilation for Michael Franks!

Horribly Sad But True ...Nowadays, even if artists like Steely Dan come out with a new album, the place you're most likely to hear it is on a "smooth jazz" station... I know you PURISTS don't want to hear this but I recently heard a house version of Natalie Cole singing TELL ME ALL ABOUT IT by Michael Franks. It was a big hit in the deep house clubs. I never knew it was Michael Franks. I love Michael's voice. Since then I've heard the original. It really is beautiful. Can anyone tell me which album it's on?
Can you tell me all about it I've got ways to make you..... MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"
