This was proof to me of what I already suspected. Covers are better reserved for singles and live performances.

nod

now, there are some songs that deserved to be covered...Simply Red does a great job of unearthing forgotten classics and reinterpreting them...the whole idear of covering someone's signature song is lost on me....

and im sorry but releasing an album of covers is just down right lazy!!! but if your gonna do it at least have a theme (like natalie's, bab's the broadway album)....

i hated that lennox followed up her smashing debut with Medusa....and while it might have been a hit in the UK it flopped in the states...

Define "flop". Medusa did fairly well in the US. It probably sold similar numbers as Diva in the US, and more than most Eurythmics albums in the US. She even won a Grammy from this project.

I still hear "No More I Love You's" and "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" to this day. Quite frequently.

ill I also heard her version of Train in Vain almost every day a few summers ago when I was waiting tables. I do not like what she did to that song.

I'll do the damn research. "Medusa" debuted at 11 ("Diva" at 23) but I do realize that where an album debuts doesn't mean much. As for the singles...

"No MOre I Love You" went to 23 on Billboard 100 (higher than #34 "Why") and was a number one club play single and #10 on the AC charts. The song also won Annie her first and only major Grammy (for female pop vocals, as oppossed to a long form video Grammy for "Diva").

"A Whiter Shade Of Pale" only charted on the dance charts but hit number 2.

Now moment of truth...sort of....both albums went Double Platinum in America. "Diva" was last certified in 96, "Medusa" in 98. I would assume that "Diva" might have done better, but probably not by a huge amount. Also, unsure of worldwide sales.

Now I don't think there is any question that this album didn't kill her career, though. I think the long hiatus did, along with too much time in between albums.

thanks for the info smile

I don't think anything "killed her career". Her career is just fine. She just had a critically acclaimed album, "Bare", and a tour w/ Sting, and won an Oscar for "Into the West". She's probably as respected now as she ever has been in her career.

Plus, she just had 3 huge dance hits.
