You can dance to The Stones. You can only get married and throw up to The Beatles.

Beast Of Burden is a nice little throwaway tune - but in terms of composing and arranging and pure musicianship, the Beatles were light years ahead of the Stones.

It's hardly their funkiest excursion. The little remembered "Hot Stuff" swings some funk tho.

I luv the Beatles, but the Stones made such great stuff in the seventies, they have a better catalog for being around so long.

I'd put the Stones' classic period (Beggars Banquet through Exile on Main Street) up with the best of the Beatles. The Beatles were a great group, undeniably, but the Stones are the best "rock" group ever. Every rock group since has taken something from them, whether it be image, sound, performance. Even the bands that tried hard to rebel against them used the Stones as a prototype for how not to be rock stars.

I love The Rolling Stones version. I didn't know The Beatles had one. Hell, I even liked the Bette Midler remake in the 1980s with Mick Jagger in the video. boxed

I'm not you know. lol I've got a couple of late period Beatles albums. The White Album and Abbey Road are great.

The Stones, on the other hand, are more my thang. And they've made some seriously funky records ... which The Beatles never did.

The closest The Beatles came was Macca's "Coming Up".

Interesting point concerning musicianship. It's not so easy:

Charlie Watts vs. Ringo on drums
George vs. Mick Taylor on lead guitar
Keef vs. John on rhythm guitar

Paul vs. anyone on various instruments
Brian Jones vs. anyone on various instruments

I don't think there was a Beatles version of Beast of Burden. It was just used as an opportunity to slam the obviously superior Beatles. razz

works like this for me
the beatles are my "good cop"/"good angel"
perched on right shoulder
St. John Lennon whispers good intentions...

the stones are the "bad cop/bad angels"
Keef yells the mantra winewomensong/sexdrugsrockandroll
posture your mandables towards the sky
and oscilate them in an apathetic manner

throw your hands in the air and wave 'em like you just don't care

Anyways, I think the funkiest thing the Stones ever did was "Too Much Blood".

Apple and oranges, as with the Zeppelin vs. Pink Floyd thread IMO. But if I had to pick one band between the two, I'd go with the Beatles. When I put the Beatles on, I just end up listening to them all day long. cloud9 I can't say I do that with the Stones, although I do love them as well.
