Still domaniates the radio. The album charts don't reflect the radio....poor Ray Charles ain't getting played on the radio, that's for damn sure.

i think that will change soon Vinny with single downloads counted on the hot 100 chart now we'll be seeing more rock acts in the top 20 and radio programmers that arent getting paid off will take note of that smile

yea but singles charts are made up of mostly radio aiplay (until 2 weeks ago when they started counting single downloads) so its not really what the public wants to hear its what the radio programmers want us to hear

Well....

Depends what you consider "Hip Hop/R&B". I'd say Gwen and Jen are because those songs aren't very different from everything else. So if you put it that way, I count 16 out of the top 20! Kelly Clarkson only has two top twenty hits since they changed the charts to reflect...what....internet sales! And Green Day has the lone rock single on the charts....there is only room for one....

Yes...a change is coming. I have no problem with hip hop...it's just what they play sucks!

I'm not anti-hip hop, I just dislike the fact that it has such a corner on the market. When I was growing up, the pop charts had a mixture of rock, rap, dance, and especially pop music. Say what you will about Janet, George Michael, Madonna, MJ, but it's undeniable that they released quality pop songs with both a hook and a message.

The pop charts have become so homogonized that they no longer resemble a multi-format chart. Killing the physical single had a lot to do with it, IMO. Now instead of the consumer indicating what songs radio should play through spending power, the corporations dictate what 15 songs will be played ad nauseum for the next 3 months or so.

Hip-hop & R&b that plays on most urban stations seems to dominate the charts...

clapping And there was also room for Salt N Pepa, Guns N Roses etc. The full spectrum. Maybe it's not that Hip-hop rules the charts. It seems to rule the culture. That minstrel-show garbage is just the way Bush & Co. want minorites depicted. But the only bad taste they're willing to legislate involves a titty popping out.
