Cats that diss Kanye dont get the bigger picture He is gonna do things that Prince can't do. Which is bring awareness to a MASSIVE level of creative musical artists in the competitive mainstream. Making alot of artists step their game up.
I read this hating thread but seriously you cats "DONT" get it. It's not about liking his music it's about what he is gonna do for the music community at large. Put it this way he signed Sa-Ra Creative Partners. If you know anything about Sa-Ra they have a creative funky alt. edge that NO one has but them. As time goes by Kanye is going to build his roster and be like the creative P-Diddy. He has common and Sa Ra signed. Hello? Prince loves Common. He was there for the Electric Circus listening. And you can be damn sure he is gonna admire Kanye Wests steelo. As far as arrogance, does this include the butt out pants episode? Or the Microphone gun rappping, a terrible synced Pussy control on tv with slave on his face, Does it include chain hats,Typhoon hair wigs,Bad spinal stage props, dancing with handkerchief like James ad nauseam Because if it does, man he is arrogant who does he think he is. Oh thats right, a entertainer/producer/Ceo that is on the rise. It doesnt matter if you like Kanye West's music, you are not seeing the bigger picture,Ladies N Gents. Its bigger than you or me. Did Prince go around telling magazines that he will no longer pose for their covers without being paid a fee?
By the way, I can't believe we're comparing Prince to someone that's famous for speeding up Through the Fire; I did that with all of my mother's records when I was little, too. Should I get a Grammy for the remix I did of Bennie and the Jets? clarification edit [Edited 2/21/05 21:47pm] I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Actually Ripher2shreds Im not a fan of his work per se.
(nice try tho..) Someone broke this down to me in the producer circle and I realized how good and beneficial he was for the industry. After he told me a few things happening and how he is shifting things Axchie, are you serious? Prince has said far more arrogant things than Kanye. Many times in print. Prince wrote slave on his face and pouted for cameras because WB wouldnt let him release 10 records a year. I think thats a bit much looking back on it. But we are all human. We are comparing Kanye on a business level. Not a musical level... So dont try to twist that because it aint gonna work. Im telling you...Kanye putting SA-RA creative partners out is gonna open doors. But like I said before, kids do not get it. Artists do and they see the bigger picture. That is the KEY People can flame all they want but at the end of the day Kanye is going to help shift music in a direction for musicians and artists. Of course this is going to be a flame worthy post. But don't be surprised if you see Prince giving props to Kanye for his work on the new Common record. There was a time when I was like sort of like the hardcore dissers. But I realize what West is doing is smarter than your average artist. And now I think he is gonna help shift things. When you get to be on Charlie Rose and talk about Hip Hop, this is important time in it's culture.

I wonder what the next Kayne album is gonna be about No, it’s gonna be about how didn’t win enough grammy's, or the best new artist, how everyone thinks he’s crazy, some Michael Jackson quips, the new knapsack he just bought…basically everything that happened after the college dropout was released. I thought the college dropout was dope, but kayne is outta his fucking mind and on his way to a hip-hop nervous breakdown. P was always tight with his shit, even when he fell of stage at the James Brown concert Prince is always in control. Kayne is seeing headlights and he's not even that big yet. Is he really that pious?

When Kayne can pull the wool over the eyes of the greedy music industry he will be on P's. level. People clown Kayne because he acts like a clown.

Are you saying that Prince hasn't brought such awareness in the last 2 decades? Wendy and Lisa? Sheila E.? The Time? Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis? What about the scores of artists influenced by his sound: Lenny Kravitz, TTD, Van Hunt, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Janet Jackson, and so many, many others? Trickology, all due respect: 1. Prince has been doing exactly what you claim Kanye WILL do, and he's been doing it for over 2 decades. Now he's not the Alpha and Omega of rock music, but he is arguably the most influential artist of the last 20 years. Kanye isn't even close to him on that tip. P has influenced more HIP-HOP artists than Kanye has, or maybe ever will. 2. Kanye isn't even the Alpha or Omega of hip-hop. De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers, ATCQ, Common, Black Star, heck, even the Fugees, have blazed the trail he's on right now. Were it not for these artists there would BE no Kanye West. Can you really make an argument that Kanye is the most influential hip-hop artist of the last 20 years? Of course not. But you can make that argument for Prince as to popular music. 3. Kanye is definitely on his way to being a legend, but time will tell whether he will have the influence you claim.
I'll take ur word for this new act, but let's be clear, acts like the Roots, Digable Planets, ATCQ, and so many others have been on the alt-tip. Ain't nothin new under the hip-hop sun. As time goes by Kanye is going to build his roster and be like the creative P-Diddy. He has common and Sa Ra signed. Hello? Prince loves Common. He was there for the Electric Circus listening. And you can be damn sure he is gonna admire Kanye Wests steelo.
No one will doubt you as of yet. P and Common on stage together is one of my favorite P photos of all time. But I dunno what P thinks of Kanye. Not that it really matters. As far as arrogance, does this include the butt out pants episode? Or the Microphone gun rappping, a terrible synced Pussy control on tv with slave on his face,
Does it include chain hats,Typhoon hair wigs,Bad spinal stage props, dancing with handkerchief like James ad nauseam Because if it does, man he is arrogant who does he think he is. Do we judge P on his appearance and arrogance now? Oh thats right, a entertainer/producer/Ceo that is on the rise.
It doesnt matter if you like Kanye West's music, you are not seeing the bigger picture,Ladies N Gents. Its bigger than you or me. It's opening doors for other artists. Plain and simple. Kanye's label is gonna inspire/motivate alot future artists. Just watch.... I don't doubt Kanye can have some influence. Time will tell whether he can sustain the considerable artistic and commercial momentum he has, which is rare in hip-hop. But we're talking mostly potential. Let's see what he does before we put him in P's class as a seminal influence. He can't even claim to be a seminal influence in hip-hop yet. It's opening doors for other artists. Plain and simple. Kanye's label is gonna inspire/motivate alot future artists. Just watch.... As an artist... I can Easily Say that Kanye is just another Slave who'll turn Coorporate Lackey Just like Good Ole P-diddy (sell out #1) I don't like Kanye, not his music, personality, 10 years ago, i heard the same rant about Puff Daddy, and diddy still doesn't do anything but exploit his own artist. What you don't understand is Labels arent the answer to Artist Liberation... Kanye starts his own Lable, but that WIll still be a sanction of another label which leads up to cooperate america... West Inked under Sony for His label and Sony well their like the most money hungry coop in the industry. I doubt West will do anything for the music community but bring more wasted talent, to be exploited Kanye wan'ts a label because he'll be a triple threat, a Producer,a Rapper and A Ceo, Thus MO MONEY MO MONEY MO MONEY its not about music don't be fooled it never is! When Kanye Decides that he wan'ts to MAKE AN INDEPENDENT Label, and he's paying his artist reasonable portions instead of half, than maybe he'll do something for the Music Community... Don't Dare saying kanye is doing something Prince couldn't have done... Please kiss my ass Prince was one of the first who spat at Labels and created his own label with no Help from cooperates his lable is blacklisted from the RIAA, because the industry knows that if artist start making thier own labels, Cooperate labels like Sony And BMG won't be needed anymore this will lead to the collapse of the music industry A Musical Armageddon... Artist are still very dependent on labels, but with the internet, that is changing rapidly Kanye isn't doing anything different than what puff did, what Usher is doing with LaFace(usher said also that his label would help the music community, my ass) You can like Kanye West as a Rapper As a Producer, think that dribble he pumps out is innovative... whatever you want to think But Kanye West does not care about artist like me, He only cares about M O N E Y "If you show me the cash Then I will take it If you tell me to cry Then I will fake it If you give me a hand Then I will shake it You'll do anything for money..." Prince Cares about money too, but ... he knows better now... The War Will go on... [Edited 2/22/05 16:07pm]

I sure hope you're not the Kanye PR department...or one of his i-marketers cause if you are, this is not the way to promote your guy. You're making him look bad. And he seems a nice enough guy. ( Nicer before your post.) Perhaps your cause is noble but you need a new approach. Study Don King. Learn which fight is the good fight. I would say now go and fatten your guy up but then I'd be like everyone else so I won't say it. Strike that last remark. Especially since it's not fair to Kanye. Well, anon (welcome, assuming u are a new orger), I assume Trickology is a younger orger for whom Kanye is a voice. I was hoping to add a little perspective. It is an opinion forum, after all. I dig Kanye's stuff quite a bit, but he's got a long way to go before he even merits favorable comparisons to the greats in hip-hop, much less the greats in pop music. See: Lauryn Hill. I don't see any reason to discuss Kanye on the same page with Prince because there is no comparison. I don't recall Prince ever publicly getting pissed because he didn't win all of the awards he (and we) thought he should or making anything like that last little silly speech Kanye made at the Grammys, but what I really fault him for is taking one of my favorite Chaka Khan songs and doing such a disservice to it! Beyond that, I don't have much to say about him. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
