Cher sounds like a cross between Elvis and Mr. Ed. I wouldn't rush to praise her vocal talents. Her work with Bob Mackie and the trio of Silkwood, Mask and Moonstruck makes up for it. Nobody who has fucked up their face like her should be calling names, though.

Although I did think she was funny in Stuck on You, I would never willingly see one of her movies.

Try Silkwood, Mask or Moonstruck. Those are great, great films, among the best of the decade. Now that her face has been frozen by botox, she can't really act anymore (after about 1991). She's still a better actress with a frozen face than Madonna ever was, though.

You're right...only twice. She was going to marry the Bagel Boy...since him, I'm not sure if she's been doing anyone. She admitted around the time of believe that she hadn't had sex or been in a relationship in a while.

Yeah, her voice may tonally "off", but she can hit a note live, hold it, and there's actually power behind her vocals, so I'll give her that much.

I'm sure she's only been married twice. Sonny and Gregg. I believe her and Madonna have been married the same amount of times. It would be damn interesting to know how close they are when it comes to how many lovers they've each had. wink Not that it's any of our business, but it would be fun to know anyway.

Even though I think Cher has an awful voice, I've been a fan since I was 7 or 8 years old. She's an amazing woman had has had a great career. I think she's a very ballsy woman too.

She certainly beats Madonna in the vocal and acting talent departments.

I don't hate Madona's vocals, but I agree. But Cher never really creates her records (she is hardly involved in the record making process, other than singing)....Madonna does. Give Madonna her due as well!

Well, I don't judge my actors and actresses by comparing them to Madonna, so that's totally irrelevant to me. I've seen a little of Mask on TV and I thought it was absolutely ridiclious. shrug Not what I'm looking for in an actress.

I wasn't talking about music, although I prefer Madonna's by a huge margin. From a purely vocal standpoint, though, Cher pretty much blows Madonna out of the water.

lol Well it's clear you're not willing to watch a Cher movie beyond the 2.5 minutes you saw between commercials, so I can imagine she isn't what you're looking for.

I would add to that very little acknowledged "Come Back to the Five And Dime, Jimmy Dean..." as well as "Suspect" (my second favorite behind "Moonstruck"). After her three '87 movies (Moon, Suspect and Witches), she kind of took a nosedive with "Mermaids" although people liked it a lot. "Tea With Mussolini" isn't bad but is maybe too British for some.

Yeah, she does a nice version of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" in TWM, but other than that, it's a wash. She hasn't done anything worthwhile since the late 80's, I agree. She was very good for about 10 years, though.

falloff

Yeah, they should have gotten Tom Savini to do the makeup. I can understand why you'd think it was ridiculous if all you caught was a few minutes with his makeup. It's a character-driven picture so it makes no sense if you just jump in half way through....then it plays like a comedy.

That would be botox in addition to capped teeth, a face lift and rhinoplasty. She even said it's no one's business if she puts her tits on her back. Take it from a performer, stripping your face of its capacity to convey emotion will make you anything but a better actress.

Well her next movie is something like "In the Pink" where she Britney Spears and Bette Midler work with Tim Allen to sell "Lady Kay" like cosemtetics or something. Might be good. I'm sure gay men will love it....Bette and Cher! Woo!

True Cher can act circles around the current crop of starlets without even trying, but calling out other artists in public who you don't even have a personal grudge against is so gouche.

Yup, Cher has had tons of surgery. It's the botox (and probably her gazillion facelifts factor in there somewhere, too) that makes her face immobile, though.

Too bad, since she could have aged gracefully and developed into a great character actress in her old age.

eyepop Are you being serious? Mask is one of the most moving films ever made, and Cher's performance in it is still heralded as one of the very best ever commited to celluloid. You've got to give the film another chance, this time with an open mind. You do know that it's actually a true story, don't you?
