Yup, we discussed Van Hunt a lot on the org last year...I really like his album, he's even better live...

Originally, he was in Dionne Farris's band, doubling on guitar and keyboards...He wrote her song, "Hopeless" which was featured in the movie and soundtrack "Love Jones" (Dionne Farris appears on his album, doing background vocals on "Out of The Sky"...)

btw, I really liked his performance on the Tavis Smiley show a few months ago... he did an acoustic version of "Down Here In Hell With You"....

I love "Hopeless", maybe he should have saved it for himself razz

I loved that song too. But as someone else said his voice is boring. Better he gave it to Dionne. Where is she anyway? I liked her.

I've been wondering why I keep seeing posts about this dude. I listened to a couple of samples when he was first mentioned months ago. And I didn't like them.

Then I read this:

"Wendy Melvoin plays guitar on a track from his debut record."

And it clicked why people who post on this site keep jocking this guy.

I'm just very wary of artists who are touted here because Wendy, Lisa or both play on their albums. It's almost as if either of them are on the album all of a sudden very medicore music automatically is supposed to sound great.

.

shrug but you love "bitter", right?

lol Very funny. You know I think "Bitter" is a forgettable album with the exception of "Wasted Time".

I love Maxwell. Is Van Hunt similar in style?

I would say that his voice is not as "flowery" (if thats a word) nor is his music as sedate. Not too far apart in the end, though.

I find Hunt to be the most refreshing "new" thing out there.
Never thought of "Dust" as annoying but I guess if you focus on it...there is that Psycho action going on. That's funny.

Thanks for ruining a perfectly good song. I really liked that track.

damn, you're easy!! evillol who else do you like? Maybe I can ruin that for you too wink

It's actually not ruined. That "Psycho" synth thing has always been borderline annoying I just choose to listen to his voice instead. But when you comment that it nearly induces voilence in you, I can't help but connect that with "Psycho". Now how can I NOT hear that?

Interestingly, a few weeks ago someone here commented on a Marvin Gaye song "When did you stop loving me...". It seems that Hunt was going for that feel in "Dust" and then something went wrong in the mix. Everytime I listen to it, until now I've thought of Marvin Gaye and "The Flaming Lips"('cause they have sounds coming out of everything).

I think the Psycho association will be better. I hate having Marvin and The Flaming lips in the same thought. That's weird.

TRUE. The song was great & perfect for Dionne, had he done it it wouldn't have been as nice. My point is really that he should write good songs for himself too smile

Ok gotcha. I couldn't be arsed to listen to his entire album after hearing the samples and hating his voice. So I take it the song writing on his album is as bland as his voice?
