"exrpress urself" reminds me of that mega gay c and c music factory video "here we go lets rock and roll" which was set in a steel mill with freedom flexing his pecs (did he do much else?)

"express urself" has some nice moves.....

The Safety Dance

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

Say, we can go where we want to, a place that they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind

And we can dance

We can go when we want to, the night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise them with the victory cry

Say, we can act if we want to, if we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude or totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

Safety Dance
Say we can dance, we can dance
Everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance
They're doing it from pole to pole
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody taken the chance

The safety dance
The safety dance
The safety dance

We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it we are never going to lose it
And everything will work out right

Say, we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
well they're no friend of mine

Yeah, it did. Vince Paterson is a great choreographer. I love that video, but I love her performance of it at the 1989 VMAs even more. Classic moves.

Janet Jackson - The Pleasure Principle

She showed that she didn't need an entire troop of dancers behind her, or elaborate sets, or an overblown theme. All she needed to make an incredible video was a room, a mirror, and her moves. bow The Pleasure Principle bow

SNAPPING FINGERS "OOOKKKAAAAYY!?"

Fools better recognize this video is probably the best dance video...

My favorite video of all time, right there! Just Janet, and that was all we needed.

Next, I'd have to say "Alright", and we can't forget "If"!

Yep, he did both Express Yourself and Vogue. He also did Smooth Criminal, but I don't know if he did any other MJ videos. Don't know what happened to him.

uhhhm..didn't the late legendary michael peters choreograph Beat It?

What changed this medium for everyone was "Beat It", performed by Michael Jackson and choreographed by the late great Michael Peters. The music video "Beat It" was the first time a large group of dancers were used to help promote a song. Michael Peters used the art form of dance to tell a story and create a feeling. "Beat It" had a budget of $165,000, a very large sum of money at the time. "Thriller" by Michael Jackson followed with a budget of $1,000,000 and again Michael Peters had many young dancers working.

I don't know why people state "Vogue" as Madonna's best dance video.

Don't Tell Me has much more extensive choreography in it.

It might have more choreography, but I think Vogue is a better dance video and a better video on the whole. VoicesCarry said it's not so much dancing as it is posing, and that's true to a point, but she actually displays a lot of athleticism in her dance moves in the Vogue video. I've not always been a fan of her dancing; I find it can be very clumsy and uninspired. But that video, to me, is perfect.

Janet Jackson, "IF"

My fave dance vid of all time, because it has my three fave dancers/choreographers of all time in it:
Jamie King
Tina Landon
Janet Jackson

The costumes, theme, dancing, song.. and Janet looked her best in this one. nod

*Even if elements were stolen from Paula's "cold hearted snake" video, which may be a close 2nd*

I agree; there's much more than just the posing to the Vogue video. Ol' girl does pull off a few nice moves. Madonna isn't the only one dancing in the video, either.

I don't think you can compare Madonna's dancing to Janet's anyway; Madonna's moves often seem less choreographed and modern. I think it might have something to do with her dance training. Truly, though, when it comes to the big picture, dancing is such a small aspect of what I look for in an artist that it might as well not even be considered.

Michael and Janet are the architects of dance videos. So my pick for greatest dance video is "Scream".The look and feel of the treatment is incredible. Michael and Janet's on-screen chemistry is visually irresistible!
