George Duke "Fame"

I was just flipping through television channels tonight, when my ear was immediately caught when I reached the BET Jazz Channel. It was a video of a song I had never heard before called "Fame" by George Duke. It may have been on the jazz channel, but it sounded like pure funk to me. I'm definately going to have to pick this one up this weekend.

Has anyone else heard this song? How old is the song....it sounds too good to be something recent. Is it really jazz or is BET Jazz just playing it for the hell of it? If this is today's jazz, then I've been missing out. biggrin

Yup, that was from George Duke's 1992 album, Snapshot - the same one that had the cool quiet storm track," No Rhyme, No Reason"....."Fame" kinda had a Jam/Lewis kind of funk feeling to it, not really Jazz at all...the jazziest tune on that album was the Brazilian-sounding instrumental, "Geneva"....

but there was a period, from the mid-eighties to the early nineties, where George Duke was just releasing Pop/R&B albums, with no jazz at all, except for an instrumental here and there....

Thanks paligap. It definately had a Jam/Lewis type sound. I'll definately be on the look out for this album.
