If you like the more acoustic stuff, you should buy 'Round About Midnight'. [Edited 2/14/05 15:12pm]

Any of those will do just fine. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

If you're in the mood for some of the most ethereal music you've ever heard, In A Silent Way is the way to go. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Everybody has great suggestions. For me it's Round 'bout Midnight. Miles' playing on Round Midnight with Coltrane is one of the best things I know will ever hear. Also try Amandla while you're at it. And try any of his ballads as well. Enjoy. "I ordered no broth! Away with ye lest my cane find your backside!!"- Ralph Wiggum, Actor.

First of all let me say you already have what I consider his best albums, along maybe with In A Silent Way. One Day My Prince Will Come would also be a nice follow-up to your Kind of Blue, while Jack Johnson would be a really nice follow up to your Bitches Brew.
Enjoy! | |

Exactly these two. I don't think you can go wrong with them, and later on you should also check out at least a couple of his 60s acoustic jazz-combo recordings (post-Kind Of Blue). Such as "Nefertiti", "Miles Smiles", "Miles In The Sky" etc. Pretty much any title from that era will do, but you should note those are more or less straight-ahead jazz. Not fusion, not orchestrated, nor overtly stylized like "Kind Of Blue".

Miles is one of those few artists that no matter what you buy, it's ALL good and all has some kind of value to it. No matter what you buy, it's gonna be some of the best jazz has to offer.

If I am not mistaken, that set includes, among other things, a superb version of "Dear Old Stockholm," featuring John Coltrane. Might I also suggest the following, for "down the road": Quiet Nights. It's a nice set. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Sorry, I don't agree at all. You have better to be careful when you buy Miles Davis cd. It depends on your taste. But his 80's albums with Marcus Miller really suck. It was old-fashioned before going out, with this cheap production. Star People from the early 80's is really cool. Although he wasn't credited Gil Evans made the arrangements. My favorite ones are Milestones, Round Midnight or anything with the quintet including Hancock, Shorter, Carter, Williams.
