Have you ever been to Electric Ladyland? I have. And I'm going again soon. Is this a gorgeous song or what? Curtis Mayfield meets outerspace underwater. This is the song that Hendrix felt he truly sounded good when singing. The double tracked vocals are very cool. One of my favorite Hendrix ballads. It tends to get overshadowed by other Hendrix's ballads, but this song is pretty. This song was basically the blueprint for The Isley Brothers sound during the mid 70's. Can anyone say "Voyage To Atlantis"? This song is the 70's version of Electric Ladyland and could have easily been on that album. Same in theme and subject matter. Released in 77, this is one of my favorite Isley cuts. Ronald's voice is flawless and Ernie shows first hand that Jimi did actually live with the Isley's when Ernie was a kid. I bet Jimi used to play "Voyage To Atlantis" sitting on the couch and Ernie secretly tape recorded it. Ernie shows his profound love for Jimi in his playing on "Voyage". The intro to this song with Ernie basically crying on lead guitar is one of the best intro's in music..ever. It's been pushed back into the background on oldie black radio in favour of other Isley ballads. But that was the cool thing about black radio in the 70's, they played brothers that were getting down on guitar like it wasn't nothing and people were hip to that fact. Anyway, who out there likes these two wonderful songs?

I do. Both are cool. EL is my fave of the two.

i love voyage to atlantis....still put that on my "gettin some booty tonight" cdr's...i also found a cheap Isley Brothers Live CD ($5 or sumthin like that)..with Jimi Hendrix playing on it..man he played a helluva solo...MUST GO FIND IT NOW...

"Voyage to Atlantis" is such a beautiful song - it makes me sad, though...Ron Isley's voice is so pure on that cut - Ernie, he's a baaaaad man...

"Climbing the Ladder" is hot, too. That whole album is smokin'.

I love ElectricLadyland, both the song and the album. I played mostly nothing else one suummer when I was just starting out on my guitar. I confess that I haven't heard Voyage to Atlantis but thanks for the tip. I'll try and check it out.

Two of my favorite moments on the guitar!! and Ernie Isley still ain't getting all the credit he deserves!

BG: It's cut's like these that are timeless and sexy. Beleive or not, I still groove to these cuts today on CD. I have found memories of listening to these cuts on my 8 track sitting back in my basement on my beanbag chair trying to play the chords on my mom's acoustic guitar.

It sounds like youre describing the opening track to "Axis: Bold As Love" which is called "EXP" .It begins with the opening notes of "Stone Free" then shifts to an "interview" with Mitch Mitchell and Jimi clowning around with guitar sound effects.

You could also be describing "Third Stone From The Sun" which is a (mostly) instrumental track from "Are You Expirienced" with spoken bits from Jimi and Chas Chandler...
