Didn't their dumb asses know that shit was piss folks off before they released it?
The reason that they added Fergie is because so many of their songs featured a female on vocal. They needed some continuity, I suppose, so they added her. I was skeptical at first just like most fans but Ive grown to appreciate what she adds to the band. I dont see anything wrong with her being in the band. That song title is still ignorant though.

Can anybody name the other members that aren't Will-I-Am or Fergie? And how did she all of a sudden surpass the other guys in terms of importance? A pair of tits is an incredibly important marketing tool. If you can throw some blonde hair on them, you're golden. [Edited 2/16/05 12:46pm] So true. What I didn't say in my earlier post was that I first saw them in a video they did in 1998 or 1999 where they were in the street and the wind was blowing real hard. Unfortunately I don't know the name of the song but I liked it. I had a feeling that they were going to be big, especially the way MTV kept on playing their videos, but it didn't happen then. Then I saw the Request Line video with Macy Gray and I thought it was cool but then I didn't hear from them till Where Is The Love and when I found out that they had a female in the group, I knew then and there that they would finally blow up and sure enough it happened. I find Fergie kinda distracting, cause they were (probably still are) all about sending out a positive message, but why is it that in a couple of their videos, she gyrating around half-naked? I don't find anything positive about that. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Ive been a fan since '98 and I have all of their cds and singles and whatnot. They arent corny and they arent a cheese-fest type of band. I find that many of the detractors are just casual observers not only of the Peas but of hip hop in general and that is very disapointing. The wise always say that once u KNOW better that u are more inclined to DO better. Perhaps this wisdom wont fall on def ears and people will get to know the culture/artform before they trash it. Its obvious to me that what theyve been doing since '98 is what they have created. Its not what anyone else is doing and for that alone, they get kudos from me. Of all that can be labled under the umbrella of hip hop, people want to shit on the Peas? My mind is blown. I just cant believe it. There are dozens of "artists" that need their clocks cleaned b4 the Peas. C'mon now. Lets be serious.

From VH-1:
Positive messages and breakdancing are integral parts of hip-hop culture, but by 1990 those elements had been temporarily eclipsed by the tough gangster image and bleak but compelling lyrics of West Coast groups like N.W.A.. However, despite sharing a zip code, Black Eyed Peas' vision goes beyond the cracked-sidewalk vignettes and sampled gunfire of Los Angeles' gangster style. The socially conscious group's earliest connections go back to high school, when Will.I.Am and Apl de Ap were part of Tribal Nation, a breakdancing crew. Eventually the pair focused more on music -- hip-hop, specifically -- and split off into their own as Atban Klann, their esoteric name an acronym for A Tribe Beyond a Nation. Eazy-E's Ruthless Records signed the group in 1992 , but many in the Ruthless camp were puzzled by the group and the enthusiasm of Eazy, who had no problem reconciling his own gangster style with the peace-minded breakdancing of Atban. Although an album was recorded, Ruthless shelved it, unsure how to market a group whose style wasn't dependent on violent braggadocio like N.W.A. The death of Eazy-E in 1995 signaled the end of any further deals with Ruthless. Undaunted by the experience, Will and Apl recruited another dancer/MC, Taboo, and reappeared as Black Eyed Peas. BEP began playing shows around L.A., impressing hip-hop fans with their mic skills and dazzling them with their footwork as well. In 1998 their debut, Behind the Front, was released to critical acclaim -- not only for the trio of MCs, but for their live band and backing vocalist Kim Hill as well. Featuring guest appearances from Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, De La Soul, and Macy Gray, BEP's sophomore effort, Bridging the Gap, was released in 2000. The group's third album, 2003's Elephunk, featured a new member, Fergie, who replaced Kim Hill. ~ Wade Kergan, All Music Guide

Reasonable minds can disagree. Perhaps this wisdom wont fall on def ears and people will get to know the culture/artform before they trash it.
So the BEPs are synonymous with true hip-hop? If you don't like them you don't know hip-hop? That's a lil' extreme don'tcha think? I can think of tons of artists past and present I would say that for, but BEPs would be way, way, way, WAY down on that list. Of all that can be labled under the umbrella of hip hop, people want to shit on the Peas? My mind is blown. I just cant believe it. There are dozens of "artists" that need their clocks cleaned b4 the Peas. C'mon now. Lets be serious.
But this thread is about the BEPs. And these are simply opinions. No one's saying that they aren't positive. No one's saying they shouldn't be successful. No one's saying that people who like the BEPs don't know hip-hop. Many, like me, are saying 1) they are wack, 2) they were aiight when they first dropped but now they are wack, or 3) both of the above. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

They've been wack ever since. Don't get me wrong. They're great bidnesspeople. They knew what they had to do to save their careers and it paid off for them. But they're still wack. Hell Yeah. That cut Joints and Jam was a slammin no doubt. But, since Fergie got in the mix, this group has been sounding like a big piece of dog shit . I think it's seeing them perform. I think it's too over the top and forced. Anyone else have any opinions on this group? Maybe I can listen to them and not watch them?
maybe its will i am? as he hogs the front everytime they do something. i liked them back in 97-98 when they released joints and jams.so to me they been around like forever. also the pre jointsjams song(with video but i forget the name) was pretty alright.the sound was different as well.
