i look forward to seeing his film, and i'll be interested to see how this next phase of his career manifests. meanwhile, maybe he and sinead can co-headline in the "hello-goodbye tour".

Yeah, around the release of "Patience", he pretty much said that this would be his last album. Apparently, he's going to make songs available through his website though.

Can't say I won't miss him, though. Caught the video for "One More Try" on VH1 Classic yesterday, and remembered again what an excellent singer/songwriter he's been since the early 80's.

No, he can't do this until he remakes Peter Brown's "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me!" (That's my fantasy.)

He does come off as a bit bitter in that piece, but really can you blame him? He's upset with the state of the music industry and wants out of it. He also needs to realize that his own music isn't as good as it used to be. Even still, that stuff is better than most of what's become popular today. One of George Michael's problems is that he has a tendency to blame outside forces for his failures. He blamed his current lack of success in the USA on his own coming out. His career was on a downward shift here long before he came out.

Nonetheless, he's an incredible talent, and he made some of the best pop and R&B music of the 80s. The Faith album alone would be legacy enough for most.

I related news Sinead OConnor, who retired a couple years ago is now making a comeback again.

I love GM, but press releases and auto-biographical movies are not a humble way to retreat from mainstream media. It's like walking out the door screaming, "No, Really! Im Leaving Folks! This is your last chance to say goodbye!"

Tina said she would retire from MAJOR touring, and so far has.

Prince has said he has done touring with the hits....only time will tell.....

"Faith" is one of my favorite albums, and I love George Michael's poppish touch appeals to me a lot (considering I like a lot of Prince songs, too). I would hate to see him go, but no one in the music business ever "retires."

It's a shame. He is a prodigiously gifted songwriter, singer and performer. I have all his albums. The film is just an expanded version of the intermittently self-indulgent, self-pitying documentary that was shown on the BBC last year.

I guess as I started this thread I should just say that I love some of his stuff. Some Wham I don't mind, Faith was good, I really loved 2Funky or whatever that was called and Fastlove is one of my favourite tracks. Hey, I even liked Outside to an extent.

I just found him to get more boring and dull as time went on. I think he had much more potential in the early days but never really grew in a direction that I liked.
