She just sounds inarticulate and "country" to me.

Well that’s because she is. I don’t know if you were exaggerating, but if you physically cringe when she speaks, then it says more about you than her.

There’s need for self-examination here. (Here comes the pseudo psychiatry)

Does inarticulate speech always make you cringe?

Is it only when Blacks use it, or is it only when famous Blacks use it in the media…. for everyone to see.?

Do you cringe when certain country artist speak inarticulately?

You were probably exaggerating about cringing, but if you weren’t, you might be internalizing the short comings of other people (especially the ones you might call your own.)

She sounds that way because her parents took her (and the original Destiny's Childers) out of school when they were 9. From that point on they spent 6 hours a day practicing singing and performing, and a couple of hours a day being "home-schooled." The home-schooling involved them doing the work "on their own." This I heard from Beyonce herself on the radio in Houston when they first came out with that "No, No, No" song.

Everytime I hear her speak I wish they would have allowed her to remain in school a little longer.

That's Beyonce's real hair in the commercials. Beyonce has lovely long hair that is pressed when needed and not relaxed. In order to not stress it and cause breakage due to constant styling she wears wigs and extensions. Tina Knowles has discussed this in hair magazines.

The company has a policy that Beyonce has to keep her real hair in a certain condition to be in the commercials.

You beat me to it. The larger companies won't even use models if they are wearing wigs or extensions in their ads. This happened from a fall out about a decade ago. Cybil Shepard was working for some hair color company like L'oreal and later it was revealed that she didn't even use the product because she was a natural blond. That really caused alot of controversy at the time so they now take measures to prevent that from happening again.

I think country accents are adorable on some persons especially older women both black and white alike....however if your white and your sounding like a redneck,or black and sounding like a Color purple extra then thats when you loose me...I have heard many well spoken and well articulated persons from the south regardless of their race...it's just the trailor park hillbillies and alot of the current southern rappers that get on TV and give the general perception that people down south are not really that educated.
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back.
I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish.

Yeah, that was me that pointed that obvious shit out. I can't even recall which thread it was in, but you can CLEARLY see in the picture that she's wearing a wig - the lace on the front is visible as is the glue.

Yes, she does wear wigs and extensions sometimes but, in the Loreal ads that is her real hair again- They Won't Use Fake Hair in the ads to avoid controversy. I've done hair modeling so I know this for a fact. In that other thread her hair was in a bun. I also am black with long hair and because I work as a fashion model I've done the same thing, going back and forth between extensions and my real hair to prevent damage from over styling and heat. When I am able to wear my hair out I try to keep it in a bun as often as possible again, to protect it from damage. Maybe you all don't understand because its a black thing.

Sorry, but Beyonce is clearly wearing either a wig or a weave. Whatever it is, it didn't grow out of her head. Same with Ashanti and the Herbal Essence shampoo commercial. The hair she is tossing around in that commercial is not her's either. Basically, it's false advertisement. BTW, I am Black female too. wink biggrin

It's appears too me that with her family, the emphasis was always put on her looks. Looks before education. I mean, what parent would have their 12 year old daughter dancing in stillettos(heard that straight from Beyonce's mouth) and wearing sexually suggestive clothes as a preteen. Education be damned, but as long as you can shake your ass, the cash will follow. Even with all the fame and money she has, I do feel sorry her. Her parents have and continue to pimp her like there's no tomorrow. Living their dreams vicariously throuh Beyonce.. confused

She and Ashlee and Jessica should get together and have a big globally-televised threesome when they're finally ready to make their big "returns" to the spotlight at 35.

My hair is about the same length as hers (this is an older pic so it's actually longer than this) and right this very minute, my hair is up in a bun very similar to the other Beyonce picture. If you look at the picture you'll see that some of the hair is tucked under. I have pics of my own hair like that cause I wear it up most of the time but unfortunately, I don't have any on the computer. And anyway, if she were going to wear extensions in the ads don't you think she'd wear the ones that go further down her back? It seems as though those are the ones she's most fond of. She doesn't because Loreal wouldn't allow extensions period. I've done shows for major hair companies, I think I'd know whats allowed and what isn't.

Beyonce is selling hair color. Not shampoo or a hair styling product. It seems to me that it would be totally okay for her to dye some weaved human hair and still be within the confines of Loreal's contract. As long as she is using their dye on the hair that's on her head (not to be confused with "her hair") then she should be fine.

And I do agree that she is wearing a bun in that picture, but the bun is very scant. I don't think that bun has the potential to become the hair that's in those ads without the help of additional hair.

damn, why are you getting all doctor phil on me?! it was just an observation. honestly, i have no problem with the way black people from the south sound, or anyone from the south for that matter. yes, it does bother me when i hear people who sound inarticulate, speak. you don't have to be an english literature major in order to know how to speak proper english. i hate to sound old fashioned but i do think that within the rap communtiy, it seems to be a "cool" thing to sound like you never made it through junior highschool. i guess the mentality seems to be the dumber you are, the cooler you are. therefore you're "keeping it real". i'm not saying that she speak that way on purpose in order to sound "street" but she definitely doesn't sound very bright to me.

Not true. I ran into that problem a few years back. I got a job doing a hair color show with Framesi of Milan and I walked in there with human hair extensions. Before they would even touch my hair, they told me I had to get the extensions removed and they were very strict about it. Small mom and pop companies may let you slide but, not the larger companies and again that was only color.

I'll admit until this thread I never paid any attention to her speech but yesterday I saw a Destinys Child inteview and she does sound very country. I was thinking that maybe she does do that on purpose. Like I said, I never noticed before but, did she always talk like that or is she just trying to get street cred?

Britney sounds like a goof ball when she speaks but I guess I don't expect much from her so it doesn't bother me. I think Beyonce tries but it's just not working. maybe she could get someone to work with her on her speech.
