john mayer is great guitar player

i saw him doing great guitar work on clapton's crossroad guitar festival.

he is much better guitar player then jonny lang.
he was better then most of the guitar players on that festival.
his guitar solos are very rhythmical.he started his song with machine gun(hendrix) intro.

he is FANTASTIC.

While I've grown a bit tired of him due to over-exposure, I still have hopes that he will do amazing things in his career.

nod Yup! I think that ,because he's had some success, and lots of screaming girls show up to his concerts, that there is a tendency for critics to dismiss him as a 'Heartthrob'...But he's a formidable guitar player, very impressive nod!! If he puts the focus on that, being a musician, he'll be just fine....

I'm starting to realize this too. He should show it off every chance he gets.

His performance was definitely one of the high points of the Grammys. It wasn't a big stupid production like everything else, just 3 guys sitting down and jamming out a tune! JOhn's playing was ON! cool

My thoughts exactly. His performace on the Tsunami relief of bold as love was awesome, and he has some very Hendrix sounding runs, you could hear it on the grammies too.

I don't even like his songs but he plays a mean guitar.Plus he had Pino Palladino holding down a very slinky groove. He is the real deal.

Also the country dude Keith Urban played a good solo over "fooled around and fell in love" and sweet home. I also did a double take on him.
Music is the best...

He needs better songs. The stuff he's had on the radio so far is so nauseatingly sappy and sweet I can't listen to it. But his recent performances at various awards shows and especially the Tsunami relief have really made me do a double take. Could you imagine if he pulled a Dirty Mind and just let loose? (well, minus the lingere and knee-highs, but you know what I mean...) The sweet/sensitive image gotta go, lol

I don't understand why he doesn't show this on his CDs. His albums are so sterile and low-key that I sometimes wonder if we're talking about the same guy.

...just saw Keith Urban in concert a couple months ago, I knew he had skills before, but he blew me away, great talent....John Mayer is amazing with a guitar also...he and Brad Paisley (country artist) played together on CMT's Crossroads...2 incredible guitar players, 2 different genres...good show

go ahead and laugh but imo john mayer should have swept the grammies for his album 'heavier things'. including the ones prince got for musicology
