Old School 80's Funk Track Of The Day: Cameo-Just Be Yourself (1982)

This hard funk jam came out around spring time of 1982. The leadoff single from the album Alligator Woman, this song just hits hard. I don't know where group leader Larry Blackmon finds these brothers at on the bass, but he surely knows how to recruit them. Check out that bass riff from Cameo bassist Larry Dow on the jam. Tight and in the pocket!!!

Larry Blackmon and various members of Cameo were residing here in the ATL around the time this jam came out.

Great Stuff. 1982 sure was a great year for r&b music. A lot of great stuff came out that year. This song was among the highlights of that great year.

on of their best, no doubt!
The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives.
The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists.
Is it a deal?

Great song from a great album. What I didn't like was when they recycled in on the next album and called it "Style"

Hell yeah, player! Alligator Woman is one of their best albums, but it's somewhat underrated I feel. This cut is just one of the hard-hitting cuts on that album that's bangin'! Everything on this track is high up in the mix, drums, guitars and The BASS! It's poppin' and clear. That's what makes it hot.

I loved the song "Style" but I didn't care for too much of anything else from that album.

Charlie Singleton is another funk guitar master. "Alligator Woman" is an underrated classic. When that came out, RightOn Magazine had a "draw the alligator woman" contest. It was pretty cool. Don't remember what the prizes were. Those were the days when funk ruled...

I think Alligator Woman was half of a great album, the other half I could do without. The title track is rockin.
