Chicago is a Fred Fisher composition. But Judy Garland is probably the performer most closely associated with it - it's the final number on the classic Judy At Carnegie Hall.

I've never seen the Carnegie Hall concert. I figured SOMEONE had to have written it, and performed it before Frank did though. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I've never seen the Carnegie Hall concert. I figured SOMEONE had to have written it, and performed it before Frank did though. It was first recorded by Duke Ellington in 1933, as far as I know. Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman covered it in the mid-30's. Interestingly enough, the Sinatra-sung Chicago is from the Come Fly With Me LP, which was released in 1957. That album was such a huge hit that it revived the song. Count Basie covered it in 1958. So did Tony Bennett. Then Judy covered it live in '61 and most people remember that one. There's even been an electronica version of it!
