Wyclef Jean

Over the years, I've heard some very negative comments about Wyclef. Seeing as we have so many opinionated people in this site, I'd love to know why there is so much negativity towards him. Personally, I like the guy. I have most of his cd's and even though I don't love every single song, I do like several. I also know that Clef is very much involved with Haitian charities and you seldom hear of him behaving like an asshole.

So tell me - do you like him or not? Either way, tell me why you feel the way you do.

I liked the first couple of solo CDs (and of course love "The Score") but he seemed to fall off a bit after that. Too many cheesy samples and kind of lazy, uninteresting rapping. It's like he started trying to be too many things to too many people. Wouldn't be surprised if he came back with something slamming, tho.

Really? I've never thought that about him. I would say Lauren Hill is the fake Marely impersonator before I would give Clef that title.

Wyclef has done A LOT of good for Haiti - and always has, right from the moment the Fugees hit big. Not so sure about his music. He's written a couple of great songs, but the albums have been dodgy.
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Everywhere I see him these days he's got a guitar. Can he really play, or is it an accessory?

He thinks he can play because he's had "lessons" from some of the greats. He's not bad, but he's not great either.

Because I loved The Fugees so much,I went out and bought Wyclef's first solo CD 'The Carnival'.I liked most of the songs on it.But then I lost interest in him. Were the follow-up albums any good?

I think he is really talented and I'd like to see a Fugees reunion.

For some reason I really got hooked on the Ecleftic & Preachers Son. There are some silly songs on each (like the one with The Rock), but for the most part I really like both of these cd's as well as The Carnival. I don't know much about his relationship with Lauren Hill, but I know they were an "item" at one time and I think he broke her heart, but I'm not sure what the deal is with them. I like both of them as solo artists and look forward to new music by both.

Thanks for the info on the new Carlos cd. I know him and Clef are pals. I think Carlos has tried to teach Clef how to play guitar, but you've either got it or you don't wink His playing isn't bad, but he's no Santana biggrin I will be seeing Carlos again this June when he plays in Toronto thumbs up!
