Whatever's the current top ten on the pop music charts:

http://www.billboard.com/...hot100.jsp

compare the list with a top ten from maybe 20 years ago & it's pretty sad.

Ludacris---there are many thugged-out rappers that I could have put on this list (50 Cent comes to mind),but nobody annoys me more than Ludacris. He represents everything I hate about today's hip hop.

I don't mind Ludacris so much because I get the impression that he doesn't take himself too seriously (unlike most of the other rappers I've seen). Plus his video for "Get Back" by Spike Jonze is hilarious! He gets cool points for not making another cookie cutter hip-hop video.

OK, so the haircuts are a little out of date, but remember, it's not about the image, it's about the music.

just kidding....mostly. razz

though i'll grant you the good charlotte part. i loathe them and all those other mall punk bands.

I get that a lot! lol

lol just joshin' ya - there's a lot of good music out there - i'm sure the list of stuff we have in common as liking is ten times stronger than the list of stuff one of us hates and the other likes. i guess on this site, as long as we all have some passing fancy for mr. purplepants, it's all good anyway.

China Crisis really don't deserve to be lumped in with dreary new romantic bands like Flock... A lot of their music (their later records in particular) were pretty sophisticated musically. They were attempting to be an eighties version of Steely Dan - they failed at it, mind you, but they gave it a good try.

Anyway, I can't let this thread pass without mentioning my own musical "fingernails on a chalkboard" - Ms. Sarah McLachlan. I cannot tolerate that pinched, sincere tone she always has in her vocals, or her new-agey lyrics. She makes me ill.

Paul Heaton, if I remember correctly. I really loved the Housemartins - esp. London 0 Hull 4. That was a tremendous album - but he does have a "froggy" voice. I can easily understand why someone wouldn't like it.

yep, Paul Heaton it is. I actually love The Beautiful South. Heaton also put out a compilation of his influences, aptly named "The Influences". It has alot of great stuff on it- and if you don't like his voice, you won't hear it...oops, we're supposed to be talking about artists we dislike boxed lol
If you have to ask, it's more than worth it.
