after a decade plus of payin dues,i think jamie really deserves this. and if u read his interview in gq he's not takin this to his head 'cause he's puttin this all this grip he's gettin to his daughter, uncle, and nieces.... and as 4 his music i'd say anyone who can hold their own in a jam session with an icon like ray charles and have him tell you himself that "you got it"...

While he's been around for a long time he's just begun to get this sort of exposure. It's also the media who choose to keep showing the same people over and over again. At least it's on someone who actually does something constructive and isn't covered just because their rich or married to a celebrity i.e., Paris H. and Kevin F.
WhamBamGlamSlam said: Halle probably just takes what she can get, honestly. And she's the only black woman getting consistent A-list exposure from the industry. So even she can't command the best. An Oscar isn't a guarantee of better work. That's why I won't even bother answering whether I'm sick of Jamie Foxx. He'll probably be relegated to crappier movies and a lower profile in no time. When you're black, that likelyhood goes up a few points. Hilary Swank said her biggest realization post-Oscar was how few good roles there were for women and it took her 5 years to get Million Dollar Baby--this coming from a relatively young white woman. Halle only won the Oscar 2 years ago. Hopefully, she'll find better roles but most actors just want to work. It will be interesting to see where Jamie is 5 years from now but I wish him the best. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

let jamie have his time to shine, it is well deserved and fun to observe I agree, he is a funny/talented actor, but did anyone really give a rats ass about him singing before Ray?? To answer your question, yes they did. His fans have known him as a talented singer and keyboardist for years. He's incorporated playing and singing into his standup act for a long time, and he sang the chorus on last year's "Slow Jamz" by Twista. ("She says she wants some Marvin Gaye, some New Edition...some Minnie Riperton will definitely set this party off right" ) People act as if he never sang until he did "Ray" and now fancies himself a singer. Please. He's a hell of a lot more talented, well-rounded and humble than most of the people we see plastered all over the TV, and I for one am not sick of him at all. Of course, I don't watch that much TV, either. Maybe some of you need to do like SassyBritches said and turn that box off. Get some fresh air. The Normal Whores Club

I do think he should enjoy his success. It's his moment, live it up! I thought he was brilliant in "Ray" and should win the Oscar and would absolutely deserve it.
That having been said... I found his Grammy per4mance 2 b in VERY poor taste. Honor the man if U want, do not walk over his memory 2 campaign 4 your Oscar. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

Actually yeah, the people who bought the album he put out a few years back. It didn't sell well but then again it wasn't marketed well and he was still known for being a comedian not a singer or musician. Most who'd heard he put out an album back then probably thought it would be like those Eddie Murphy attempts at singing. . [Edited 2/15/05 10:58am] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'll gladly nominate Joss Stone in the exteremly overated to the point of being annonying list for 2004-2005! Because according to entertainment critics, they both of them died for our sins...
