Led Zeppelin win their first EVER Grammy

Lifetime acheivement award but further proof the Grammys are a nothing more than a joke.
Great actors/directors etc. get the Oscars most of the time but the Grammys are certainly no equivalent as 99% of the time they reward utter rubbish and make up a bunch of non-categories.

Led Zeppelin certainly deserves a Lifetime Acheivement award. Definately one of the greatest rock bands ever!

I think I know what Kinaldo meant about the Grammy's being a joke. What happens is that a lot of outstanding musical artists in their prime like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton (when he was actually a rocker and not an adult contemporary artist), Bob Dylan, Steely Dan, etc. are passed over for Grammys by the likes of Starland Vocal Band, Milli Vanilli and Marc Cohn, and they don't actually win any Grammys unless or until they are way past their prime in popularity (such as Steely Dan or Bob Dylan) or they are awarded a lifetime achievement award for not having won a Grammy previously. Does anyone really believe that Steely Dan's album, "Two Against Nature", which won Album of the Year for 2000, was really a better album than Eminem's "Marshall Mathers LP", D'Angelo's "Voodoo", or OutKast's "Stankonia" album?

no, no, not always...great directors/actors who havent recieved (competative) Oscars:

Alfred Hitchcock
Charlie Chaplan
Orsen Wells..

The fact that these three groundbreaking greats were overlooked is proof of how all these awards have more to do with politics and less to do with actual merrit...

shall i continue?

some greats a bit closer to our generation:

david lynch
robert altman
glenn close
lauren bacall
peter o'toole
martin scorsesse
richard burton
danny elfman
spike lee

I know. biggrin I didn't start a thread about it because I figured everyone would do this -----> rolleyes to me. mr.green

I posted a bit about it in the Grammy Sticky already, but yeah it's well overdue I guess. Not that I even care about who wins Grammys much anyway, mostly because of what 728huey already posted above me. But it was still cool to see them finally be recognized. Jimmy, Jonesy, and Bonham's family are very excited about it, but Robert seems to be ambivalent. He didn't show up to accept it with the rest of the band.

Ok so The Oscars aren't great either (rewarding Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves over Scorsese's Goodfellas was the worst joke of the lot) but it's still a hell of a lot better than the Grammys. The Grammys for some reason always gets dubbed as music's equivalent of The Oscars, when in fact music has no equivalent. The Oscars at least manages to retain SOME credibility. When looking back down the years to see what were the best years for movies, the first point of reference would most likely be The Oscars and then The Golden Globes. Same cannot be said for The Grammys.

Because the Grammys are all about who is popular at the time, and who's selling the most. I suppose the same can't be said for movies. I mean, if American Pie 2, for example, was the top grossing movie for a while, I would hope that it wouldn't receive an Oscar just because of that. lol

the one thing the grammy's can do is knock down all of its "sub" categories...maybe they should give award of recognitions for specific genres but this should be the only grammys issues:

Best Album

Best Song

Best Male Performance

Best Female Performance

Best New Artist

Best Producer

Best Engineering

Best Album Cover (Something they currently dont do)

and

Best Video Short Form

Best Video Long Form

thats it.....that would return the grammy's to something of prestige...sure, your MJ's or Santana's would no longer be albe to "sweep" the awards...But, big deal. You think Julia Roberts should be able to walk home with 6 Oscars in her arms?

I wish they would have allowed them to go up and say something though, it was sortta silly just letting them sit in their seats along with the other legends they were honoring....

Tell me about it. rolleyes I mean, they did a Janis tribute didn't they? And she was also a Lifetime Achievement winner as well.

But they were already honoured the night before in a separate ceremony, in which they were able to give speeches.

I completely agree. They made such great rock music in their day. I still enjoy listening to their work.
