It's those "new friends" of yours. I think they're keeping you from current events.

I saw a lot of The Grammys but I was in and out of the room all evening. I must have missed that part. So they mentioned Rick, huh? I'm shocked!

Anyway, he died this past summer on August 6.

It didnt seem to get the press it deserved even though Rick kind of gained fame again with "Chappelle Show". Sadly, though, even if they ever do release that album he was working on (or even make a movie on his life, which was rumoured), he'll never get the same kind of attention that Ray Charles did. I'm not saying Rick is better than Ray or anything, I just think it's sad that he won't get his musical due.

I know what you mean. Rick James was a funk artist and always stayed true to his original funk fan base. They will never honor someone that did not have mass crossover appeal unless the younger generation praises them from all the samples they have heard in rap records.

Everyone also has a problem with Rick's drug use and trouble with the law but they don't have a problem with all the rock stars that were into drugs. The only reason they don't have a problem with rappers that have been in trouble with the law is because rap dominates the pop world these days.

I heard it much afterwards myself. It wasn't really mentioned anywhere in Europe.

I think the sad part was the funeral here in LA. Maybe a few hundred people. I was going to go but changed my mind fearing the crowds. Once I saw the news I was heart broken. I should have went and showed some love. I just knew I wasn't going to be let in for the viewing and found out after that everyone was let in. The Buffalo service was way different. They came out for Rick. He will be missed.

In case anyone missed it, Laura Branigan ("Gloria", "Self Control") died last year also.
