Grammy Numbers Down

I just saw a report that the number of people who watched the Grammys this year was down 28 percent from last year.
A reported 18.8 million tuned in last night, while 26.2 million watched last year.
Wait a minute. You mean Usher, the hottest thing in music right now, at least according to the mainstream media, couldn't draw as many or more viewers than an old has been like Prince? At least that's what most of the media thought of Prince before last years Grammy opener schooled a few folk. lol

I'm sure the numbers are lower than that. They didn't take into account the folks like me who realized Prince wasn't even there to get his award and turned to another channel.

I watched "The Simpsons", "Arrested Devlopment" and "Desperate Housewives" before I decided to give the grammys a shot.

Black Eyed Peas, Gwen and Eve, Los Lonely Boys and Maroon 5 all did a mash up medley.

It was a duller year for corporate music too though.

Ahhh. Gotcha. I tuned in about 5 minutes after it started when Los Lonely Boys were on, and turned it off once Queen Latifah started her monologue. I was only interested in seeing Zep get their award, but completely forgot they would be on.

Queen Latifah is great to listen to, and gorgeous, but it was painful to hear her open the show talking about catching a hot glimpse of Tim McGraw and Usher in their changerooms.

the numbers for both the Grammys and Oscars go down pretty much every year..... nothing surprising or new.

The Grammy's sucked and the general public probably saw through those ads. It's a shame but what can you do.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Actually, the numbers went up last year. I think last years show was the highest rated in 4 or 5 years.

The real reaon they went down this year is because they had formidable competition from the Desperate Housewives, who's numbers were strong despite the grammies. But it wasn't a bad show. On the contrary, the show has been the most entertaining music awards (sorry AMA's) in a long time. These past two years have really stepped it up.

I helped contribute to these numbers. The grammies have gone down the
tubes since the mid 80's. The grammies used to be a pretty good
event back in the day..but now.....

I think there's a correlation between the lack of great live
performers in recent years that really move people and the grammy
viewship numbers.
