I dont think Walk Right Now was a good choice.
YOUR WAYS and EVERYBODY are good funk choices off that record and are extremely ignored among u guys. Your Ways...gosh so scary funky, haunting and vocally top notch on falcetto. Everybody, such a better version of "Get On The Floor" much better and definitley mo funk. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I consider Triumph to be the forgotten Michael Jackson solo album. Except for a few co-writing credits and some background vocals, the other brothers may as well not be there. The songs are so funky! Walk Right Now is one of the funkiest tracks MJ has ever layed down. Lovely One and Heartbreak Hotel also deserve honoury mentions. I may get shot down for saying this, but IMO, Triumph is far superior to both Off The Wall and Thriller. Dont know about that, but I will say that "Jam" is one song that I would love to hear P do. The music and lyrics in it, are very funky!! Was listening the other day, and wondered...."wonder what kind of FUNK P would put in this jam. Would be interesting. "If you wanna feel the FUNK....then you have to know the SOUL!!!"-----(Up and Down...just like a seesaw, Back and Forth...oh girl I'm fallin)

Funky as hell.... This album prove that Mike can compose some very good stuff without Quincy... Exactly. It's a great funky album without being all over produced and polished for mass appeal. Mike and the guys just throwdown naturally on this one without coming across like they are trying for "superstar" status. This one's about the music and that's why it's my favorite. Andy is a four letter word.

Triumph is great, but I think Destiny is the best Jacksons album. Things I do For You is the funkiest song on both those albums.

im gonna borrower something from Richard Roeper (ugh...is he ruining Roger Ebert's career or what?):
Best film is the film that has more weight and more importance... Favorite film is one that you will enjoy more often for what it is.. So, "Off The Wall" is MJ's "best" album but im sorry folks "Triumph" is my MJ favorite album...This is the one album I am not ashamed to blare while driving...This is the one that gets everyone grooving without any laughs... props to this thread!! and Triumph (hey, anyone else wonder if Prince was trying to copy Walk Right Now's breakdown during Sleep Around?) Space for sale...

Ballads like Butterflies, Heaven Can Wait, Break Of Dawn, sounds like updated Off The Wall ballads. People who adore Off The Wall should give some chance to Invincible. Co-sign. I've always said this about some of Invincible's tracks. It almost sounds as if some of these songs were from an aborted Rod Temperton Appreciation album.

Me too! I liked Destiny now I got to see what the fuss is all about. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

"Triumph" is above "Thriller" on my favourites list, too, and some of the songs are far better than some on "Off The Wall" but as a whole OTW beats both. The best Jacksons album anyhow.

I'm listening to Destiny right now and damnit, if Triumph is just as good as that one (at least the 5 best songs on it), I WILL get it!
eBay, here I come! | |

The best Jacksons album to me is their incredible 1981's Live album. On the other hand, the best J5 album is a toss between 1973's Get It Together and 1975's Moving Violation.

I like the Triumph album, but I don't understand the comparison to anything Prince has done, especially his funkier tracks. Walk Right Now - though it sports a dumb title - is a good song, but it's not the best on the album. Structurally it sounds a great deal like Can You Feel It, and it's pretty much a straight up disco tune. It's barely got any funk in it.

"Walk Right Now" but I like this lp. Destiny is second only to Off The Wall because of the funk, soul, and mid-tempo gems in the title track, "Bless His Soul", amd "That's What You Get (For Being Polite)" Triumph has several tracks that I skip over. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

O.K. so this is funk but it's really close to disco in its production and overall sound. How close does it sound to the album before it?

That's What You Get (For Being Polite) is up there with any great piece mike ever wrote or arranged. Things I Do for you is funky as hell. [Edited 2/28/05 18:20pm] I think it was the show "Top of the Pops" when they performed like 3 songs from Destiny. Jermaine was also a musical guest on the show and he joined them on stage for the for the songs "Destiny" and "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" They opened the set with "Things I Do For You" which is pure funk...Randy jamming on keyboards then doing the conga solo! I have this performance on tape somewhere, along with performances of "Dancing Machine" in 1974, "Enjoy Yourself" and "Show You The Way To Go" (I forget what show but it's all the way live) and other J5/Jackson tv performances. The good ol' days I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

"come on baby, lets ride" .....which segues into a lovely if very short acapella harmony which leads striaght into the pounding drums of teddy Riley and She"..... "i really need her".....classic stuff. "if u only belive" is a great track infact. Thanx 4 reminding me..... "art of madness" has odd, yet amusing lyircs...
