Just stupid stuff that Allison Krause and Anita Baker fell right in line with. She asked many people who rolls a better blunt, Snoop or Willie Nelson.

But it also works as a heckuva joke.

so what if kanye has an ego, it has all u guys talking and tha is the point of it. he made hip-hop new and interensting last year and boosted the whole rap game. u dog him for being arrogant, u ignore him for being thought provoking. as soon as u see somebody doing well that has a flaw, u drown them on it. if kanye didnt have an ego, none of the 'critics' here wut give a rats ass how many people he sampled. that is until u found a flaw within him to bring him down on. the guy put everything he had out into his acceptance speech because he had that much to say because people like the ones here continue to belittle him as a person and as an artist. so what if he is cocky, u guys are just mad that he has the muscle to back it up. he made a statement with his speech, if u guys think that it was a negative one because it was 'arrogant', then tell me what kind of speech prince gave. wait, he didnt even show up. i mean i love prince, but talk about arrogance...

prince has a right to be arrogant. Prince's arrogance and Kanye's ego don't even compare. Kanye will have a right to even DESERVE an ego when he tops the height of his fame 20 years later and then give a tour to top it all off, and then be able to say finger3 to the grammys the year after they INVITE him to open the dry ceremony...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

he needs to stop bitching and fit about not getting a fuckin' AMA. I read an article today that said that he had to apologize to the country chick who won for best new artist AMA, because he had bitched and moaned so badly about the situation that it offended her. Kanye needs to pray that Jesus walks with him on his next album...we'll see if it will live up to this hype....

Fuck..may be a strong word.

Here are my thoughts: I think all musicians have a tough road to get the recognition they dream of, it doesn't matter what city your from, they kind of music they record, etc..

The bottom line is that the artists today embarass themselves by acting like complete fools, the way they act, talk, and come across like they are the second coming of Christ. Just thank the people who got you there be gracious and get the fuck off the stage, because lord knows some of those artists won't be there again. i.e Lil Jon, I just want to smack that little bitch..yyeaah!!

Ditto. I often wonder do these rappers and producers who bite off of other peoples hard earned work ever sit down and think about how it was when Ray Charles, James Brown, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, Nat King Cole, etc. when they were coming though. They performed without even getting awards nor recognition (until after their death for most) for their first or second or even third albums. Some died without getting awards at all!!! They had to endure performing through the Jim Crow era, segregated audiences, and weren't allowed to play certain gigs just because of race. Yet Kanye is bitching because he doesn't get awards that he deserves....aww please, Kanye shut the fuck up!!!!!

I'd like to see how most of these rappers ie., 50 cent, the Game, Ja Rule, Lil John, G-Unit, Ludacris, Chingy, Lil Wayne, Baby, Mannie Fresh, Juvenile etc. would have survived life in the entertainment industry pre-civil rights era...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

well, if u read what i said and u obviously didnt, i said nothing about giving him props for sampling other people. i said that if he didnt have such an ego, noone would make such a big deal about him using samples. kanye has been around for more than 15 minutes, if u knew nething about his work u would know that he has been producing for years.
some of u guys are so quick to rush to judgement that u dont even acknowledge what other people say. if that hasnt already sunk in with u guys dissing kanye and his achievements, then it must shine brightly with the statement above. i have never seen so much hate for a single person for such dumb reasons on a board before in my life. no need for a hateration, lets have a celebration...bitches(RIP Rick James)

I know that he has been a producer for years...and as far as you not saying that you prop him for sampling...THATS WHAT HE DOES!!! So you must be propping him for it, right?? What makes him any different than any other rapper on the scene?? NOTHING?? My point is this....why should he be MAD cause people wont give him his props?? People who like his music and flavor buy his stuff, right?? To go on a nationally televised program, his first Grammys, where he could make his own interpretation of his own image....he gets on stage and plays the angry ghetto child, who gets no love, and now is viewed by "middle America", as one of those damn "thug" rappers whi doesnt know how to handle himself in a professional setting. Who was he reaching out to in that idiotic speech of his?? Middle America?? Trust me, if after all these years, they still diss Tupac....he did much more damage to his persona and image than he could of by going up there, showing all how much education he has, and being appreciative for what he has accomplished over his "short" time in the business. Was he calling out the other rappers and crews, ON THE GRAMMYS?? If thats the case, hes even more twisted than I thought!!!

One does not have to show his hard side to be respected by the public....this is one of the most debated/heated discussions in life today. Today's youth, is all about showing how hard you can be.....is this mentality really advancing our youth and their standing in society??? I say not, but someone might be able to show me different. Peace!!! I dont hate against you my man, just cant see giving a man props for something that he dropped the ball on, in his moment.

Yeah, his ego's huge, and might just derail the talent he has, and yet, College Dropout blows away Musicology in my book -- and I like Musciology a lot. worked hard? see, thats where i disagree...You know, african american artist of the past had to fight hard to get half of the attention that kanye west and the like get...and they handled their moments of fame with much more class and grace...thats why its easy to ridicule and poke fun at these posers...

and the grammy accolades have come way to fast..way to soon and way to unworthy...

Janet Jackson would not have released 1814 or janet. or Velvet Rope if Control had won seven grammies...She won nothing...Why? Because as great as Control was, she wasnt mature enough as an artist..the album wasnt sophisticated enough to merrit such a landslide win..now, well now half-baked but well meaning albums get grammy's dumped on em left and right...and me thinks it has more to do with the fact that the grammy's have awards for way way too many categories...its stripped the worthiness from them.....but these artist keep thinking they have done something noble...

read that "worked hard" part again..now who's lost their funny bone smile

I'm not gonna disagree with you that the grammy's suck, and kanye's speech was disappointing, no doubt...but he's certainly not the first talented artist to be too smitten with his own talents. But the grammy's, in all their wrong-headedness over the years, have been most lame in their recognition of black artists. I'm just pleased, and honestly surprised, that this year's awards not only recognized the current predominance of hip hop in popular music, but that they awarded a record that, at least in my book, ranks in the genre's top offerings this year.

wow, that's a great analysis and I have to agree with you. the grammy's have also become obsessed with catering to the youth, i.e. 12-24 year olds and that also has a part to play in the watering down of the grammy's. ironically, it didn't seem to help considering that "desperate housewives" drew more people than the grammy's did.

Current? Hell, it has practically dominated black music for 15 years and is basically the only form that has been recognized.

Kayne West was just emotional because of all the shit he been through with the accident and all...plus no label wanted to sign him. He'a been in the game for a while. He didn't just blow up overnight.

Hip hop is sampling - that's what it is. The SUgar Hill Gang sampled - Good Times. It's a sampling industry with the exception of a few here and there.

His producing skills will keep him in the game longer than u think.

There were lots of hip hop artists back in the day that sampled but there were loads that made original records like Twilight 22, The Egyptian Lover (sampled sometimes but made many originals), Divine Sounds, Pretty Tony and Freestyle, etc.

There were even artists like Soul Sonic Force and Felix & Jarvis that might have borrowed something from another group but they at least remade it rather than sampling it.

Hip hop artists have it too easy these days. What used to be some of the funkiest jams out there has turned out to be a total talentless joke.

Preach to em Gemini.....I hear ya!!! All I'm saying is that KW has achieved NOTHING to date that would warrant his attitude and display within his speech. Every redneck/bigot that could have been swayed by his intelligence, just had another example(right or wrong) on how a "nigga" doesnt belong. As a man of color myself, I'm still confused as to, who he was directing his anger at?? When I first recognized him, he was touted as this hip young man, who was different and cutting edge. I think he just lumped himself into the group that all the critics put rapper in....."a blow in the wind thug, that has hit it big". I thought he was much smarter than to let himself be grouped into that age-old rapper label.

I don't appreciate Kanye trying to intimidate the audience by saying "GUESS WE'LL NEVER KNOW!" in response to if he didn't win.

Are we supposed to be afraid of this guy?! So what if he didn't win, what's he's gonna do?

Talent and success all aside, Kanye has a poor whiny attitude. There's a damn war going on out there and people are getting killed everyday. There are more important things in this world than winning an award.

Current? Hell, it has practically dominated black music for 15 years and is basically the only form that has been recognized.

Not by the Grammy's it hasn't! They didn't even create a hip hop award until 1988 and it went to the Fresh Prince (Young MC the next year). And performances were even more limited...how many godawful Sting, Paul Simon and Celine Dion performances have we had to sit through while I think the number of hip hop performers (before this year) could probably be counted on one hand.
