Have you seen Dancer in the Dark- The Movie???

I don't know you, but I was depressed for 2 weeks after seeing this movie. sad

Tremendous acting by Bjork (to tell you the truth, I didn't expected much from her, since most of the times singers are not good actors... but, I got OMG!)

I got so depressed that I even downloaded the "I have seen it all" video when she is on the train with many scenes from the movie. (I know, as Tori sings in Hey Jupiter "It's a little masochist....") lol

I read somewhere that Bjork got too much into the character and she got depressed too and she will never participate in a movie again...

If you saw the movie, how did you feel about it and the acting parts??

The OST was incredible to me too

Anxiety

i cried like a fool after the first time i saw this movie. i had to walk around the block two times, and even after that, when i tried to go in a wrecka stow to cheer myself up with a little music shopping, i couldn't even talk to the guy at the counter without bursting into tears...i was a mess! lol

the second time i saw the movie i took a friend and we had to leave early because the shaky cinematography made her have to run to the bathroom and throw up.

nobody ever said it was EASY watching a lars von trier movie! lol

same thing happened to me...but it was my aunt...she ended up sitting in the back and closing her eyes and listening to it..we couldnt leave cause we were in a group of 8...

and like you, during my first viewing i bawled...from the "key" moment with the bank deposit box till the end...one girl actually had to be carried out of the theater....

wonderful film...i just watched it with my neighbors two weekends ago...and i cried again.

bjork didnt get too in to character btw....lars fucked with her too much..he taunted and manipulated her to the point where the pain on screen was not an act....

her stance on the experience now is that lars didnt have to do that to get the result he was after..a good director could have done the same minus the negatives...i agree. nod

but, i guess it doesnt really matter how the art was created..its about the end result..

however, i find it telling that none of his lead actresses are willing to do another film with him....kidman came the closest when she verbally agreed to appear in the two sequals to Dogville..But that ended up being more pomp then anything (kidman doing kidman best and working the industry to gain likeablity while she was pushing for her oscar for The Hours) cause she declined the actual offer to appear after she won. biggrin

its a wonderful film...sure its a major major emotional experience but shouldnt all good art be? and see it, even if your not a fan.....Entertainment Weekly was so taken by it they rated it the best film of the year when it was released and then the best DVD of the year the following. (usually they reserve dvd's for event releases with special features up the wazzoo or tvshow releases)..

I watched this when it came out on video when I was living in college residence, and as tough as I am I was still walking around campus with puffy eyes the entire evening following the movie. I think this movie really got me back into Bjork after I had strayed in the late 90s.

Love it...great movie, though definitely pretty hard to get through. The BF hates it, as he does all Lars Von Trier movies, cause he finds them too depressing, plus he hates Bjork. But even he thought she was pretty amazing in it, as is the kid who plays her son. Don't even get me started on the scene where she's listening to the music through the vent.

Dogville's my favorite Von Trier movie, though. Very underrated.

Loved it. I've never cried so hard in a movie theatre. Months later I rented it and watched it at home alone and literally sobbed out loud for what seemed like ever. Incredibly, incredibly powerful.

Really? 'Dancer in the dark' is fantastic IMHO,
BUT
Irréversible is the greatest piece of doody I've ever seen. I mean, WTF was that? Not only disgusting (Salo by Pasolini was disgusting as well, but still great) but also nononono talent. The actors look into the camera all the time. And don't tell me this was some kind of postmodern porcédé to make us aware of the fictitious character of the movie. ill
