Like my ray parker jr thead a while back, Kashif took on newjack too wih this 1989 self titled album. Most of the 9 tracks are funky formulaic newjack.

The cathiest is "personality", which i assume was a failed single. "i'm coming home" "ain't no woman (like the one I got)" "pop the question" "my door"...all newjack. Three of his more usual ballads are present though, but surprising none the less. The amount of artists and groups that changed their style for newjack or dum sequenced rnb/pop is quite amazing.

kashif really lost his midas touch when he got into the New Jack Swing

Kashif was one of favorite producer/songwriters of the 80s. The album I loved by him had a nice instrumental groove on and Stone Love it. For all his hits he never seemed to have the household name popularity that other producers had.

yeah, iam a newjack nut so thats why I like this very generic newjack. Heck i even love some of diana Ross' blatent trying to be hip album "workin' overtime".



Remember james Ingram's "it's real"? Teddy Riley really hooked him up on that and "love come down".....2 classic swing tracks. Tet the 2nd half of the album is typical ballad Ingram....."i don't have the heart" is nice though.....

I guess the newjack era was the last time that established older artists tried to be hip. U don't get Diana ross doing neptunes type stuff do you? But I guess most are too old to care about modern music. But they did then, or at least their managers did.

Oddly Lional Ritchie never bothered trying to be newjack.....

I used to like Kashif.
