Shalimar trivia

Who was the original leader of Shalimar. Before Howard Hewlett? I can't remember his name but he was NOT a nobody.

The first official roster of vocalists in the group included the trio of Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniels, and Gary Mumford, but Gerald Brown soon replaced Mumford, and in 1978 Brown was replaced by Howard Hewitt.

Which one was with the group when they had their first break out song "Hot fun in the summertime"?

Not sure if this is what you were talking about, but there was a group called 'Dayton' that did a remake of Sly Stone's "Hot Fun In The Summertime", in 1982...I remember that getting a lot of airplay back then....

I actually met Gary Mumford many years ago. He and my mom used to date as teenagers and he made visit back to our old stomping grounds of Birmingham Alabama. We stopped by a mutual friends house for the small reunion.

At the time, which was around 79'or 80', he was a born again Christian and was no longer in show business. I remember all of us sitting in the living room and my mom bringing up Shalamar. He sort of brushed over the subject and moved on. He mostly talked about God and what he'd been up to in California.

But it was nice to actually meet him nontheless.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Now that DOES ring a bell. The year would have been the right time also.
Thanks, I am going to try to find out more about Dayton.
