Love Has Fallen on Me

If you axe me, Chaka's cover of Love Has Fallen on Me is the best tune on her 1978 solo release. I'm Every Woman gets talked up the most, and it's a great dance classic, but damn her vocals are red hot on this track. And those background vocals? drool Once those drums lead into the bridge I start to go crazy. Don't get me started, cuz I will not stop listening to this song...ever! It's like bein' in church.

Ndeed!! Also, if you get the chance, check out the original version, by Minnie Riperton and Rotary Connection(from their 1971 album, "Hey Love")

Oh, I have! I like their version, but the vocals on Chaka's are more to my liking. I want all Chaka without some dude cutting in. lol

I have to confess, I know very little about Rotary Connection, outside of the Minnie Riperton connection. I have an mp3 copy of their version and the vocal on it sounds like a guy. Or I could just take the sly way out and say that in my world "dude" is non-gender specific.

???!! lol hmmm....that might be because the gospel singer(her name escapes me at the moment)is probably an alto...she kinda reminded me of Merry Clayton a little...

..btw, the song was written by Charles Stepney(later of EWF fame) and someone credited as "Lloyd Webber"...I always wondered if it was Andrew, since it was written in the late 60's around the time of "Jesus Christ, Superstar"...it's got that theatrical kinda feel to it....But I dunno, could just be a writer named LLoyd Webber....

Funny, because I thought that very same thing. I asked a friend of mine who knows a lot about musical theatre and Broadway and it didn't ring any bells. The only place that I can see a first name listed is at allmusic.com. They have it listed as Andrew Lloyd Webber, but I wonder if they might have it wrong.

It's slammin! Also includes the beautiful track, "I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun"...Nuyorican Soul/Masters at Work ended up doing a remake of that one...

Charly reissued that on 2 for 1 Cd with their other great album,, "Songs":

Songs also has a great Stevie Wonder tune, "This Town", that he's never put out under his own name...apparently, he was intending it for a musical he was writing...you gotta hear Minnie's etheral upper register on this song, it doesn't even sound human.....
