Best/ most consistent pop album ever?

This is an album that Bruce fans generally don't like as it is too poppy (like "purple rain" to prince fans)

To me, the whole album is killer with no filler. Not only one of the greatest pop albums of the 80's, but, as a collection of pop on 1 album that is not a greatest hits, this is possibally one of the best pop albums of all time.

yes this is better then "thriller" "like a virgin" and "purple rain".

Wow around 1982-1984 brought out alot of good pop albums, particually 1984!

yes the title track is overplayed but is stilll a good song. My fav's are "i'm going down" "glory days" "bobby jean" "cover me".....

main problem is is the sound...bloody awful early digitalized sound. even the vinyl is the same.....Bruce shoulda looked at Dire Straits 4 the sound.....

It ain't my fav, but song has good lyrics. It certainly ain't patriotic.....that is where Mr Reagan got it wrong. Not that it bothered him. Infact it hepled him in his campaign

No, Madonna certainly doesn't have an incredibly consistent record in her catalogue. Even Like A Prayer has its filler. My choice for most consistent pop album ever would have to have no loose seams. I'll have to think about it. I think it is ridiculous to call this a better pop record than Thriller and especially Purple Rain (come to think of it that would be a contender for my ultimate pick).

P.S. Most people would classify this as more "rock" than "pop", even though it does have pop influences.

yeah it ain't easy 4 me to hear and actually like an album all the way through. Only few can do that to me, this is one of them. it isn't miles better then "purple rain", but I kinda hate "i would die for you" and the bland (thanks to apples) "take me with you".....

"Born in the USA", like "purple rain" is pop. Huey lewis was pop too. I guess just simply put, pop is whatever was popular.....Richard Marx was pop too.....err anyway

lol I guess that depends on your definition of pop.

If "pop" means "music that sold a shitload" to you, then, yes, it is pure pop.

But then, so is Nirvana.

It's a great album, but I wouldn't consider it "pop". Despite the fact that it sold a ton of copies, it's still miles away from "Thriller" and "Like a Virgin".

I do. "graceland" by paul simon is pop too. I know it is hard to define the word or gnere pop, but basically anyone that gets shit loads of radio and video play qualify's 4 me.....

How much did "born in the USA" sell? I think it outsold "purple rain"? 14 million worldwide? How much is "like a virgin"? 20 milion?

Like A Virgin is overrated. Her first album was better than Like A Virgin.

Well if by pop you mean "popular music" then just about anything that isn't classical or folk could qualify. But If I had to name the most consistent pop albums ever these would be some of my picks

Revolver-The Beatles (Sgt. pepper is way more paliated and less strong throughout)
Innervisions-Stevie Wonder
Axis:Bold as Love-Jimi Hendrix
Purple Rain-Prince
Off The Wall-Michael Jackson
Hunky Dory-David Bowie
Kind of Blue-Miles Davis
Fresh-Sly & The Family Stone

Man you gotta be kidding!!! If u define pop music by sales then I could name literally hundreds of more consistent pop albums. As for Springsteen, Born to Run is a much better album that sold millions as well. Apart from Dancing in the Dark most of the songs on Born on the USA are pretty weak, and probably slightly more rock orientated than pop. I can see why some would really like the album but I can't believe anyone would say it's better than Purple Rain!

For pure pop it's hard to think of an album with absolutely no filler so I'll go with Rubber Soul (Beatles) and Pet Sounds (Beach Boys). And I suppose Purple Rain is pure pop at heart.

What Goes On & Run For Your Life are filler, imo. Both pretty lame. I don't like Wait or Think For Yourself much, either.
