eek I don't think anyone anticipated that - and it's a double CD set, too.

I'm really glad, though. It got like 0 promotion.

The biggest debut is Tina Turner’s All the Best (Capitol), which came on strong to finish #2 on 119k units, thanks to a week-of-release TV blitz involving a pair of Today appearances and an Oprah special, as well as the album’s availability at Starbucks locations nationwide in the second successful arrangement for the coffee chain; the first was for Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company (Concord).

lol Well I didn't notice any of that.

Really, though, I don't have time for Oprah and the Today Show.

This is more diverse than I've seen the album chart in ages. Hooray for Tina. I just wish that her album had all new songs on it. Unfortunately, she has gotten truly crappy material for about 10 years now. But anything that reminds folks of her greatness is fine by me. I'm glad Prince and companies like Starbucks have found a new business model to get good music out. Maybe we'll finally see an end to that poisonous bile masquerading as hip-hop.

Tina has been working this cd set. She was on Oprah too and we all know that Oprah can sell ketchup popcicles to Teresa Heinz Kerry. wink

I think that this is another great story:

7 5 JOHN LEGEND GETTING OUT OUR/COLUMBIA 96,652 +64%
GET LIFTED

An increase of 64% in sales over last week for a breakout artist. Hes still in the top 5 after naerly 2 months.

that's pretty impressive! i didn't even know the album came out already. was it last week? not bad for getting zero promotions and for a band that hasn't made music for years. go crue go!

damn'd,cold
true...but cold...

i happen to love the crue, though
posture your mandables towards the sky
and oscilate them in an apathetic manner

throw your hands in the air and wave 'em like you just don't care

I know! I guess all the tv appearances have paid off...and she's still doing them! I bet it will have "legs" (giggle) while the Crue set won't, even though I wanted it and am dissapointed that I didn't buy it when it was on sale....how did the 3rd 2-CD set of last week due....I doubt ole Kylie managed to well since her CD got NO promotion....is "I Believe In You" a single here?

If you're referring to Tina, there are three new and very different songs on the CD. And it was cheap as dirt when it came out ($9.99 at Circuit City but I think they might have made a mistake since it when I went to the store it was $14.99 and they had to change it).

Well the Billboard album charts can be pretty diverse at times , especially since in the first week of release a lot of albums debut in the top ten and many drop out the next(and consider the wide range of releases this week). Now the radio/single charts....that's a whole other story!

nod And I'm sure those other hits sets didn't do to well. Greatest Hits sets tend to do very well, sometimes with just a little pomotion push (like those cheapo, late night commericals with the 1-800 numbers).
